Metro Awakening is a new PlayStation VR2 and PC VR title that was first revealed during the PlayStation State of Play this past week. While this will be a full game, series creator 4A Games notes that this will not be the next "mainline" Metro title. You can think of this one as more of a spinoff that is also available only in VR.

Though announced during State of Play for PlayStation VR2, Metro Awakening is also in development for Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro devices. It will also be released on PC via Steam for non-Quest devices. This VR title is being handled by Vertigo Games, the studio that developed Arizona Sunshine and Arizona Sunshine 2. It will blend together gameplay mainstays such as exploration, stealth, and combat.

Set in 2028, the all-new story is penned by series creator Dmitry Glukhovsky. You play as Serdar, a doctor searching for his wife amongst the claustrophobic, irradiated metro tunnels of post-apocalyptic Moscow. As Serdar ventures deeper into the Metro his courage and sanity will be tested by the supernatural forces he encounters, and will set in motion the events that lead to his spiritual awakening as something else entirely…​
