  • The Game Awards Returns December 8 with a New Category

Get ready for the Best Adaptation Award.
    The Game Awards 2022

The Game Awards, otherwise known as the Keighleys amongst my friends and I, will return with awards and reveals on December 8, 2022. The show will once again be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

For the hundreds of thousands, nay BILLIONS, of us folks that won't be attending in person, we will be able to watch through a variety of digital platforms. Those platforms include Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, probably Steam, and probably like a dozen other streaming platforms none of us have ever heard of. If you're feeling extra brave, you can spit in the face of Covid and Monkeypox by hitting up select IMAX theaters to watch the show with other brave souls.

Note: Please don't actually spit in the face of anyone or anything. That shit is highly contagious.

Geoff Keighley and Kimmie Kim will once again be executive producers on the show. It wasn't confirmed anywhere, but you can probably expect this year's event to be hosted by Keighley once again.

You can expect the usual assortment of awards given throughout the night, most of which will be relegated to rapid-fire mentions before and after commercial breaks. There will also be a bunch of new game reveals, as per usual. Last year we saw new trailers and reveals for thigns like the new Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie, Sonic Frontiers, Star Wars Eclipse, Homeworld 3, and plenty more. Can you expect another spicy NewsBits to come from this year's show? There is certainly a greater than 0% chance of that happening.

This year's event will at least feature one all-new category: Best Adaptation. This award will be given to "creative work that authentically adapts video game intellectual property to other popular media, including but not limited to theatrical movies, streaming shows, podcasts, novels, and comic books." So things like the Cuphead animated show could be a nomination here, or the Uncharted movie, maybe the Fortnite crossover comics, and other things of that nature.

Master of Hype Geoff Keighley Says to Not Get Too Hyped for Summer Game Fest
      by Shawn Zipay
The event will mainly focus on already announced games.

If you were looking for the Summer Game Fest to come out swinging with announcements like Bloodborne 2 or Bloodborne on PC or even Bloodborne Kart Racer, you may be severely disappointed. The master of hype himself, Geoff Keighley, has come out to say that the Summer Game Fest will be "primarily focused" on games that were already announced.

And when Keighley is saying to keep those expectations in check,...

Geoff Keighley to Skip E3 for First Time as Troubles Mount for Dying Trade Show
      by Shawn Zipay
This comes the same day the exhibitor list was leaked.

Geoff Keighley, creator of The Game Awards, revealed today that he will not be attending E3 2020. His decision to not attend this year's event will mark the first time in 25 years that the industry veteran will not be in attendance. It also means that he will not host the annual E3 Coliseum show. This was a regular event where Keighley would host a series of game developers in a rather informal Q&A, allowing them to talk freely...
