There was some big Skate 4 news today, starting with the fact that the game is officially being called skate. and not Skate 4. skate. will be a free-to-play title for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms when it's ready to be released. It will also include both cross-play and cross-progression support.

All of this was revealed as part of developer Full Circle's latest Board Room update, which you can watch below. The team says that skate. will take place in the fictional city of San Vansterdam. This seems to make it a sister city to San Venelona, the city where Skate and Skate 2 took place.

Why skate. and not Skate 4? The developers say that this game isn't a sequel per se but rather a new platform that they intend to keep building on for years to come. That means there won't be something like Skate 5 but just skate. here and forever*. *You know, unless something changes and "forever" is cut short.

Full Circle says that the move to free-to-play will probably make some people worry. They say that there are some rules that they're following to ensure that microtransactions won't get out of hand:
  • No pay to win
  • No map areas locked behind paywalls
  • No paid loot boxes
  • No paid gameplay advantages
skate. is currently going through some open-ish community tests, which you can still sign up for. The game is very much in the early days of development, with the tests being conducted on what can best be described as a "pre-pre-pre-alpha" stage. The team is still accepting testers every once in a while, with a lot more being added in the coming months.

Full Circle says that they are taking a lot of feedback from the community into consideration in the hopes of making this the best game possible for fans.
