Ubisoft is removing access to a full, single-player game even if you own it.
Assassin's Creed Liberation HD

Update as of July 11, 2022 at 1:36PM (ET): Ubisoft has clarified that "current owners of [decommissioned games] will still be able to access, play, or redownload them." This includes Assassin's Creed Liberation HD.

Ubisoft says that only the DLC and online features will be affected. The company is working to "update this information across all storefronts." Ubisoft did not explain why a single-player game was being delisted from Steam.

Original story: Ubisoft has already pulled Assassin's Creed Liberation HD from being sold through Steam and soon you won't even be able to play it at all. Ubisoft recently delisted the single-player, action-adventure title so that no new purchases could be made. Worse still is the fact that on September 1st, you won't be able to play it even if you already own it.

The Steam release of Liberation HD is a remaster of the old PSP title that tied into the events of Assassin's Creed III. It was released in 2014 and is, so far, the only Assassin's Creed title to feature a black female protagonist.

Recently, Ubisoft put out another list of titles that they were going to stop supporting in September. Most of the titles listed say that online features and DLC for these titles would not be accessible. While that is already pretty crap, especially the removal of access to DLC that you may have paid for, the listing for Assassin's Creed Liberation HD had zero mention that the game itself would be inaccessible.

Ubisoft's page detailing the "decommissioning of online services" as of September 2022 states this for Assassin's Creed Liberation HD:

You will be unable to link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.

Additionally, the installation and access to DLC will be unavailable.
The Steam page for Assassin's Creed Liberation HD was updated to include the following notice:

Notice: Please note this title will not be accessible following September 1st, 2022
It's unclear why this is the only title of those listed by Ubisoft that will be fully made inaccessible. If you happen to own Liberation on Steam, it would probably be in your best interest to play it now before you no longer have the option to do so. It is not clear whether or not the version of Liberation that comes with 2019's release of Assassin's Creed III Remastered is also impacted by this.

Here are all of the titles that Ubisoft is pulling multiplayer and DLC support for come September include the following:
  • Anno 2070*
  • Assassin's Creed II
  • Assassin's Creed 3 (2012 release)
  • Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
  • Assassin's Creed Liberation HD
  • Assassin's Creed Revelations
  • Driver San Francisco
  • Far Cry 3 (2012 release)
  • Ghost Recon Future Soldier
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
  • Rayman Legends
  • Silent Hunter 5
  • Space Junkies
  • Splinter Cell: Blacklist
  • ZomiU
*The devs at Anno 2070 studio Ubisoft Mainz are trying to move the game's online services to a new system to allow players to continue using said services without issue.
