When people think of video games and the act of playing them, they do not normally do so with the notion that there are benefits to playing them in mind. This point of view is easy to understand though as many might see someone who plays video games a lot as unproductive. However, video games are just like any other entertainment, such as movies, TV and even gambling. There is no doubt that online casinos are growing, and as they do, more people are turning to play and are discovering the benefits of playing online. In the same way, the video game industry is massive and many players are discovering each day what the beneficial effects of gaming are.

History of video games
Many people will be aware that video games were not always the global phenomenon they are now. In fact, as with all new technology, when video games first started to release to the public, they were certainly viewed with caution. Did this not apply to kids who had just found the next best thing since sliced bread, but reservations came from parents who saw their kids fixated on the screen and who wondered if they could be doing more productive things. For a generation, that didn’t grow up with video games at all, it is easy to see why this might have been the case.

The many benefits of video games
Fortunately today, video games have been embraced by the world and are no longer viewed with caution by the majority of people. However, there will always be people who need convincing, something that can easily be done when the many benefits of playing video games are laid clear. For example, those who play video games are more likely to know about certain subject areas. This is because video games can be surprisingly educational – anyone who has played the Assassin’s Creed series of games will know this to be true. While they can easily be as bloody and as violent as anything, they still teach players useful historical information in a way that is memorable.

Just like with most forms of entertainment, video games are at their strongest when they are used as a means to escape from the real world. This might be because of any collection of reasons, but there is no doubt that most people will need something that they can retreat into so that they can have a good quality of life. Given the outstanding immersion that some video games provide, they are suitable to do exactly this.

Coming away from the mental side of things, some players might be surprised to learn that consistent video game time can improve physical attributes as well. Playing a shooter game for a long time will develop all sorts of skills, such as reaction time, hand-eye coordination, hand dexterity and vision.

A growing community
The video game community is one of the largest on earth with a count that reaches the billions. Once more people understand that playing video games can cause beneficial effects, there is no doubt that the number of people who call themselves gamers will grow.
