My undisputed 2018 Game of the Year, God of War, is about to get a little more visually appealing. That is assuming you have a PlayStation 5. One of the PlayStation 4's best titles is getting a next-gen upgrade tomorrow, February 2, 2021. Sony and Santa Monica Studio are releasing a free PlayStation 5 optimized patch for God of War.
This patch will allow you to play the game at a default framerate of 60fps along with a default resolution of 4K. As it currently stands, you could either play the game at 4K or 60fps, but this new update will offer both at once for fans to enjoy. There will still be an option to lock the framerate at 30fps if playing in 4K, but I'm not quite sure why you would want to do that.
For those of you with the original disc based version of the game, you may have already been running God of War at 4K/60fps, provided you didn't get allow any title updates to download. God of War had shipped with an unlocked framerate, which was then patched with a 30fps cap to smooth out an inconsistent framerate on the PlayStation 4 Pro.
The as of yet still untitled God of War sequel, or God of War Ragnarok, is tentatively planned for release later this year.
