2021 marks the 25th anniversary for the Tomb Raider franchise, with it having made its debut back in October 1996. Since then, the franchise has seen numerous games released, including a few spin-offs from the main series, and even a couple of Hollywood films. The series was even been rebooted in recent years to some mixed opinions. All told, there are more than 30 video games released with the Tomb Raider name thus far.

It is this reason that Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics are kicking off a year's long celebration of Tomb Raider. All of it is being done in honor of the 25th anniversary of Tomb Raider and its heroine, Lara Croft.

This year long celebration will include "in-depth explorations of the major games released in the franchise. There will be some old archive footage shown off, developer interviews, community activities, life playthroughs, and more. The studios will focus on one Tomb Raider game per month. There will also be "additional franchise announcements over the course of the year."

“Over the last 25 years Tomb Raider has become more than a game and Lara Croft has risen to become a cultural icon,” said Scot Amos, Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics. “We’re so proud to be a part of this rich tapestry of adventure, but we recognize the true credit belongs to the fans! The amazing Tomb Raider community has made all of this possible and we look forward to celebrating with them his historic milestone and for many decades to come.”
