Ever since the Nintendo Switch was released, it seems like we've had a rumor floating around about some "Switch Pro" that Nintendo was getting ready to ship. This rumor always had some varying degree of validity behind it though.
Last year the rumor suggested that Nintendo was working on a couple new versions of the Switch. Naturally, the rumor again pushed the narrative of a "Switch Pro" being one of those models. In reality, it wasn't the case. The two new models of Switch ended up being the Switch Lite and a hardware revision that gave a slight battery life boost to hardware that was otherwise unchanged.
Today's rumor comes courtesy of DigiTimes, a Taiwanese news outlet. According to their report, a new Nintendo Switch model will be released in mid-2020. Production of this new model will reportedly being "at the end of the first-quarter 2020," which starts around April. This also apparently supports an older report from Wall Street Journal contributor Takashi Mochizuki who said "Nintendo has ideas for further updates to the Switch lineup after those two models to make the platform's lifecycle long."
This new Switch model will reportedly include a magnesium alloy body and an updated CPU. Current Switch models use plastic for their bodies. Despite the lack of details, this rumored revision is yet again being called the "Switch Pro." With a more "premium" material used for the body, I can understand the desire to apply the Pro moniker to the name. There is also a rumor that suggests the Switch Pro will have 4K support. I'm going out on a limb here and saying that I won't be holding my breath for that particular power jump to happen.
So far, Nintendo's only statement about this rumor is that they have no statement to make at present.
Original Switch comes out, but i don't want to pay for all the portable features i won't use so i wait.
Switch Lite happens not for me.
Updated Switch hardware, mostly affects the portable side of things but whatever, maybe i'll get one after christmas if the prices drop.
7 days into 2020 new hardware rumours... So i should probably wait and see what this is right?
I've wanted a Switch for a while but these constant Switch Pro rumors has kept me waiting. Lite isn't for me either. Updated revision was nice and I thought that was going to be it, but here we are again.
