Halo: The Master Chief Collection PC

It's been rumored for months now, but today the official word is that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is coming to PC. Not only will you be able to pick it up from the Microsoft Store for Windows 10, but it will also be available through Steam. In fact, the Steam Store page for Halo: The Master Chief Collection is already live. How cool is it seeing that?!

The PC release will be staggered and done in chronological order beginning with today's newly announced addition of Halo: Reach. Reach will be the first Halo title on PC in this collection and will also be added to The Master Chief Collection on the Xbox One.

The upcoming release of Reach will include remastered versions of the campaign and multiplayer. It will also include the much loved Firefight game mode.

The PC release of The Master Chief Collection will include a custom games browser, field-of-view options, ultrawide support, the ability to tweak a number of graphical options, custom key mapping, and other common PC mainstays for games. Of course, those on PC and the Xbox One X will also get the added benefits of HDR support and 4K Ultra HD support.

In addition to this, Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be coming to the Xbox Game Pass.

When is all of this happening? No idea. Sadly, Microsoft did not yet provide a release date for when Halo: Reach will be released into the Master Chief Collection, including on PC. They say that there is more news to come this weekend during SXSW but I'm more inclined to say that we maybe won't see a release date reveal until at least E3 2019. The most concrete thing we know about the release is that it will begin "later this year."

Halo Waypoint has a bit more information on today's announcement, a small bit of which is shared below.

For the team at 343 Industries, the most important and critical element of this project is ensuring that MCC delivers a true “first class” experience on PC. We’re embarking on a journey with our community to build a real PC experience that delivers on PC gamer expectations. The team is passionately committed to ensuring that all the features, bells, and whistles expected in a modern PC title are included with MCC. These features may vary somewhat by title, and we won’t get everything in there all at once – this is a product and an experience that will grow and evolve over time. We are laying the groundwork for PC native features such as excellent mouse and keyboard controls, support for multiple resolutions and aspect ratios, field-of-view sliders, and adjustable framerates, to name but a few. And yes, there will be support for Xbox gamepads and other PC controllers.
While Halo: Reach will be the first title out on PC for The Master Chief Collection, it won't be the last one. Microsoft will eventually release Halo: Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo 4. Right now, there is no word on whether or not Halo 5: Guardians will join that list on any platform.

Now, I'm assuming (and this is just me saying this) that this could very well pave the way for Halo: Infinite to be released through Steam. I think a PC release of Infinite was already a given seeing as how Microsoft has been doing a tremendous job lately with their first-party releases on Xbox One and PC albeit through the Microsoft Store on Windows 10.
