Former Rare developers, composers, and voice actors are coming together to bring the world Yooka-Laylee, a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie that you all so desperately wanted.
IGN has some of the first footage of the game in action. Keep in mind that it's still super early on in development.
Yooka is the chameleon character seen in the above media. Laylee is the bat character seen above. Yooka can make use of a long tongue to attack enemies, grab objects, as well as using it as a grappling hook. Laylee can carry Yooka over short distances as well as attack with a sonar blast.
The game was formerly known as Project Ukulele. Playtonic Games is a new studio formed from former Rare developers. The footage and screens seen above is the result of just three months of work.
A Kickstarter for Yooka-Laylee is slated to begin on May 1. There will be tiers that allow backers to purchase a copy of the game starting at just $15 (USD). Other tiers include extras such as soundtrack, art books, and more. Given how May 1 is tomorrow, you can expect to see a bit more once the Kickstarter page goes live. Depending on the success of the Kickstarter, the team's current plans are to bring the game to PC, Mac, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the Wii U.
