  • Titanfall on PC Removes Pilot Hunter and Capture the Flag Modes Due to Lack of Players

Yesterday, Respawn Entertainment removed two multiplayer modes from Titanfall for the PC. The reason? Apparently, not enough players were playing those modes.
Yesterday we removed CTF and Pilot Hunter as separate playlists in the PC version of Titanfall. This has generated a lot of discussion with the PC community and we’d like to like to address your issues as openly as possible. We have an amazing and large PC audience with the vast majority of users predominantly playing Attrition and Hardpoints game modes. CTF and Pilot Hunter have not been widely used modes on the PC version. Players trying to access these modes had overlong wait times to find other users and it was making for a poor experience. We want to make sure that not only is there compelling content in the playlists we offer, but that the experience of joining a match works well. We’re tracking what playlists players are choosing, and we’re going to continue to look at unpopular playlists and add new ones on both platforms.

We're currently working on those new modes and updates and can't wait to share the details with you. We will still rotate Pilot Hunter and CTF in for future playlists as well as adding new riffs on game types that Respawn is currently working on. Our goal is to have a wide variety of playlists that are popular and changing. That said, we will not remove modes from Private Matches, so there will always be the option to select them for competitive and personal play. Thanks for your understanding as we try to make Titanfall a better experience for everyone.

This is one of the most idiotic moves I've ever seen. Developers are actively removing content? Just leave those modes in and let the players wait if they want to play those modes. This is just another great reminder of the joys in playing in a world where you cannot host your own dedicated servers for multiplayer games.

This is actual content they're removing. They're entire game modes that were included at launch that are now removed. "Content" is not just limited to maps/weapons in games.

Additionally, if that content is removed, there is absolutely zero guarantee it will add more players to the playlists that already have enough players in them for adequate matchmaking. If those modes were what those players wanted to play and they're no longer there, it is entirely likely they will simply quit playing instead of being forced into game types they don't want to play.

These servers are hosted on the Azure cloud system. There is literally zero change to the hardware needed to play those game types. It literally does nothing but strip out content that shipped with the game and piss of those that enjoyed those modes.

Do you think what they said about the wait times for those lesser played modes is true?
      I don't play Titanfall so i can't check, but a 6v6 isn't exactly asking much.

At least they're available for private matches, provided 12 friends are available with the same interests. I mean, unnecessarily inconvenient yes, but players aren't completely out of options. Just, difficult to play those modes since you can't play them with the general public.

Now if only Audition Online Dance Battle would reorganize 85% of their gimmick game modes... I mean, that is a perfect example of hoarding game modes nobody cares about, and burying good game modes because nobody can freaking see it in a list of over 25 modes.

I had longer wait times for their terrible "campaign" modes than I ever had in any of their competitive multiplayer modes. If anything, they should have completely scrapped their terrible campaign modes, given immediate access to the two Titan designs they stupidly locked behind that mode, and kept the other competitive modes in.

What? Is this a reference to a specific game or something?

I went off-topic, don't mind me. Audition Online Dance Battle is a Korean developed MMO rhythm game that was localized internationally. It's a game with over 25 modes, yet the majority only plays 2... Many of the other modes are boring with no purpose (one of them literally involves pressing just the spacebar at the right timing). So when I saw Titanfall modes being removed from public play (though kept in private play), it made me think of how much that would benefit Audition (new fun modes get ignored since it's such a large disorganized list that goes deeper into subcategory lists). But again, off-topic and I'm sorry for the confusion.

As for Titanfall, this move is unnecessary and adds to taking away player choice for no benefits in return. I don't see why "waiting in line for too long" equates to "remove the mode." This isn't the same issue as say... Halo's SWAT mode that was removed from public play because apparently everyone hated it, according to Bungie.
