That's right, when the PlayStation 4 launches next month, gamers will have the OPTION of using their real names for their ID instead of a simple online nickname. Sony has even said previously that you can use both your real name and an online persona name if you so desire and you will not be restricted on who you play with based off of which name you choose to use.
Of course, people are already up in arms over this OPTIONAL feature that users can make use of. Microsoft is also planning on letting Xbox One owners eventually use their real names instead of their Xbox Live Gamertags as well.
I feel like years ago when it was just us whizz kids on the internet, most of us were safely hidden behind our aliases, then the less informed crowd arrived with their social media and obsessively gave away their personal information, when it backfires on them we all get blamed for making the internet an unsafe place.
Celebrities choose to have their lives be entirely public, they also have bodyguards.
