Déjà vu.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered

According to some rumors with a bit of meat to them, we now know a couple of interesting details concerning the 2019 Call of Duty release.

First off, this year's game is called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. I'm dead serious. It's going to be a new entry in the Modern Warfare series that originally started with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in 2007. I know the difference between the two titles is literally just a single character, but it is a difference. Amusingly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is actually the fourth Modern Warfare title, effectively making this technically 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4'.

This is also just ignoring the fact that a remastered release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare came out in 2016 that was called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. Note the lack of a 4. Does that mean that this year's game was already remastered in the past or...

According to Jason Schreier, the name is due to the series going with a soft reboot for this year's iteration. In short, this means that this year's game will either be some alternate timeline reboot or a sequel to the series that just retcons a ton of stuff from the previous games.
