A special in-game event is about to begin in Battlefield 2042. Take part in the Battle of Nordvik, a three-week long event that includes a new game mode every week and new cosmetics to unlock as you play. DICE says that Eastern Forces are retaliating after finding out that Nordvik has a secret alliance with the West. You will join either the Nordvik Control Corps or the Black Storm regiment in a "power struggle that marks a turning point in the global conflict between two superpowers."
Game Modes
It all begins on December 20 with The Assault on Nordvik. This first week is all about the Conquest Assault game type where Black Storm leads the attack on Nordvik. This week will consist of 32v32 matches that feature ground-only battles. The rounds start with the defending team holding all objectives and waiting for the attack. The twist here is that there are no HQ spawns for the defenders. If you lose all objectives and there are no other spawn methods (squad mates or beacons), then you lose. Attackers will have an increased Ticket Count to help balance things out a bit.
The second week starts on December 27 with The Defense of Nordvik. After losing their defenses in the first week, the Nordvik Control Corps try to strike back. The game mode for this week is called Retribution and is a "16v16 twist on Conquest which combines elements of Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush into a single mode. Attackers try to arm M-COMs around the Nordvik facility. Defenders are simply trying to fend off the attack.
The final week is The Liberation of Nordvik and it runs from January 3 - 10. This final week is all about 128v128 Breakthrough Chaos as US reinforcements join to help the Nordvik Control Corps with a big counter-offensive. The "Chaos" here comes via modifiers of increased movement speed, faster redeploy times, and faster vehicle call-ins.
I'm not sure how much this whole story matters since every Specialist is playing on both sides at the same time anyway.
This event somewhat coincides with a free access period for PlayStation owners. PlayStation Free Access starts December 16 and ends December 24 at 8AM (PT).
Rewards and Store Stuff
During the event, there will be "various new cosmetic rewards and bundles become available to earn, claim, or purchase." I am directly quoting DICE here on this because last time there was a lot of confusion about what was and was not available for free to players.
Earn Ribbons within each week’s unique game to unlock the unique gameplay rewards for each given week. The Store will have free bundles for you to claim, as well as two new bundles for purchase.
