  • Death Stranding 2 PC Release

We have a ship that can go almost anywhere, but you're gonna have to walk anyway.
A man with a silenced pistol, wearing a bandana, taking cover behind a crate as an enemy patrol walks away.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is now available on PC through storefronts such as Steam and Epic via developer Kojima Productions in collaboration with Nixxes Software. Kojima Productions says that this is a "standalone sequel" to the original Death Stranding, which is true, but also I feel like you really should play the first game to understand a lot of what's going on in this sequel.

At any rate, a new trailer for Death Stranding 2's PC release was put together by Hideo Kojima.

Today's release of Death Stranding 2 on PC includes the harder "to the wilder" mode. The mode will put your skills to the test with "merciless environments filled with deadly enemies, and completing orders will require every ounce of ingenuity you can muster." Your reward for completing the game in this mode? "A sense of satisfaction that is truly priceless, and you can expect genuine gratitude from the other porters you help."

I had no idea Kojima Productions employed the guy from Electronic Arts that made Reddit history.

There is a regular edition of Death Stranding 2 as well as a Digital Deluxe Edition that includes additional patches, early unlock of the Machine Gun [MP] (Level 1), and gold versions of the Battle/Boost/Bokka Skeletons. All players that sign in and connect to their PlayStation account will also gain access to the PlayStation overlay to earn Trophies and all that. Plus players also get a unique in-game design for patches and an exclusive suit inspired by the PlayStation logo.

Death Stranding 2's PC release does include other added content besides the punishing new mode. There are also, naturally, plenty of PC specific features.

In this standalone sequel, DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH offers a new range of tools, weapons and vehicles at Sam’s disposal. With his companions from DRAWBRIDGE by his side, Sam takes on a new adventure to connect Australia to the Chiral network. Beset on all sides by enemies, Sam will have to shoot, sneak, and sprint his way out of trouble, as well as survive natural disasters such as earthquakes, sandstorms and forest fires, and brave the ruinous Timefall as he strives to save humanity from extinction once again. The Social Strand System returns, connecting players from around the globe allowing you to shape someone else’s world, and have their actions shape yours.(...)

Sam can also access new fieldware including new bandanas which can be unlocked through the newly added “Trapped in a Strange Realm”; a VR training area where you can relive Sam’s epic confrontations with Neil. Porters can also expect to see visits from the Chiral Feline in the private room aboard the DHV Magellan, new additions – including the Chiral Feline – to Photo Mode.

Thanks to our friends at Nixxes Software, features exclusive to the PC version include full integration with NVIDIA’s DLSS, AMD’s FSR and Intel’s XeSS and upscaling and frame generation technologies as well as uncapped frame rates and customised graphical settings1, super-ultrawide (32:9) support for gameplay, with standard ultrawide (21:9) support for in-game cut scenes2, full mouse and keyboard support with custom keybind mapping, full DualSense controller integration, with haptic feedback, adaptive trigger functionality3, and Spatial Sound Support4. Standard ultrawide (21:9) support will also be made available for the PS5 version also.

Additionally, players on PC with high-end PC hardware will have the additional option to enable Ray Tracing on Reflections and Ambient Occlusion via additional settings. When enabled, ray-traced reflections are applied on surfaces such as water and tar, while ray-traced ambient occlusion applies ambient lighting affects to scenes, resulting in more realistic shadows in crevices, corners, and between objects. These additional PC options are aimed at players with powerful hardware that want to push visual fidelity beyond the "Very High" graphics settings the game already offers. Though would like to note that Ray Tracing is not part of the minimum or recommended specifications for the core experience and is not required to enjoy the game as intended.
