As the October 21st launch date for Painkiller looms ever closer, the teams at Anshar Studios and publisher 3d Realms aren't about to keep quiet. Instead, the studios have released another promotional video for Painkiller today.
This latest video is the first developer diary, which takes you behind the scenes on the latest title. You'll see how the team "took inspiration from the series' roots to design the visuals, levels, weapons, and more." The teams say that they wanted to "create something fast, challenging and fun," while still "preserving the franchise's attitude" and pushing it forward in new ways. Together, they say that the result is "all about dynamic movement and freedom in co-op, letting you flow through fights and dominate overwhelming hordes of enemies together."
And what is a Painkiller game without a variety of unique weapons? As a key pillar of the design philosophy, the weapons in Painkiller are drawn directly from the origins of the franchise but given some new, modern flourishes. This includes the ability to customize weapon upgrades to meet your playstyle or compliment co-op partner loadouts.
A demo for Painkiller is available right now if you want to check out a small portion of the game. Otherwise, Painkiller is out on October 20th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
