Today, VOID Interactive shared that the console version of their tactical shooter, Ready or Not, has officially surpassed 2 million copies sold. The game released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on July 15th, making that about 2 million copies sold in just two weeks. This follows the 1 million sales milestone that was hit on July 19th, just four days following the console release.
While VOID Interactive is busy celebrating these sales milestones, the fans of the PC version are growing more irate. Multiple threads, comments, and posts on the Ready or Not Steam Community page as well as the Ready or Not subreddit have complained about several different aspects since before the console versions of the game were released.
Prior to launch, VOID Interactive announced that they had to make some content changes in order to satisfy certain restrictions by Sony and Microsoft. The changes were fairly minor in scope and included the following content adjustments:
- Dismemberment is still present but only occurs while enemies are alive.
- Torture visuals were slightly toned down (e.g. less exaggerated wounds).
- Some nudity was reduced (e.g. civilian/suspect coverage).
- Violent animations involving children were softened (e.g. child shown sleeping instead of convulsing).
- Evidence textures on console were modified to be less explicit, but implications remain clear.
Multiple threads on r/ReadyOrNotGame (2, 3, 4) show what appear to be a reduction in texture quality, foliage quality and density, atmospherics, shadow quality, and lighting. These changes seem to have happened when VOID Interactive updated the PC build to be in sync with the console builds.
An example from one of those threads can be seen below. On the left is a "before" shot from before the console parity update was released and to the right of that is after the update was released.
The team at VOID Interactive said on their Discord that they are aware of at least some of these graphical issues. Specifically, they say that they are aware of an issue with textures being lower resolution than intended and issues involving broken lighting on many maps. This is at least some positive news, however there is no word yet on when any of that will be resolved in an update. They also have not acknowledged there being any issue with the reductions in foliage quality/density or a reduction in shadow quality.
