SNEG announces that Captain Blood is finally available to play after a wait of about two decades. Out today for PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, Captain Blood can be yours for $24.99. On PC, you can pick up Captain Blood from Steam, GOG, or Humble.
This game was originally going to be released in the 2010s for PC and consoles from developer Akella. The game was unceremoniously cancelled when publisher Playlogic went bankrupt and "underwent restructuring." Even before that, the game had a rather wild development that included a 2003 announcement, an E3 2004 showcase, and several different restarts of development from late 2004 to 2006.
Captain Blood was originally in development for Windows and Xbox (the original Xbox). It then shifted to being an Xbox 360 title before original development ended. So, when you go, "Ahhhh, wElL tHiS lOoKs LiKe A pS2 gAmE," for once you really aren't too far off.
Captain Blood's new developer, SNEG, were given the original developer's blessing to take up the mantle and finish development on the game. The game has a limited time 10% discount at some storefronts during this launch period.
You play as Captain Blood, the manliest pirate captain ever to drink grog while romancing maidens across the Spanish Main. When the local magistrate’s beautiful, buxom daughter is kidnapped, he swallows his pride and hires you and your crew to rescue her. Expect wild adventures with cannon firing, pistol shooting, swashbuckling sword fights, and plenty of pirate shenanigans.
