    In a new Nvidia blog post, the tech giant confirmed that the GPU that they custom made for the Nintendo Switch will support DLSS upscaling and ray tracing.

    Nvidia DLSS is already one of the most widely used of Nvidia's technologies, at least on PC. With the help of machine learning, DLSS allows users to play at a lower internal resolution but output at the native resolution of their screen. This offers improved performance and, at least in some cases, even improved image quality.

    The specifics on how DLSS is utilized in the Switch 2 was not shared by either Nintendo or Nvidia. The same goes for the device's ray tracing capabilities. The companies say that the Switch 2 will include dedicated ray tracing and Tensor cores, but stop short of providing actual details.

    Nvidia does make at least one bold claim in their blog, with a claim that the Switch 2 delivers "10x the graphics performance of the Nintendo Switch."

    With 10x the graphics performance of the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2 delivers smoother gameplay and sharper visuals.
    Boasting about "10x the graphics performance" may sound like a lot, but you also have to realize that the Switch 1 is powered by a custom Nvidia Tegra X1 chip. The Tegra X1 made its debut in early 2015 and is a chip that was already two years old by the time the original Switch launched in March 2017.
