  • Warcraft Games Being Delisted from GOG

GOG says they'll still preserve them forever anyway.

Blizzard is pulling the original versions of Warcraft and Warcraft 2 from GOG. This comes a very short time after remasters for Warcraft were released by Blizzard as part of their 30th anniversary event.

GOG says that both Warcraft and Warcraft 2 will be pulled from purchase at GOG on December 13. That date is exactly one month after Blizzard released the remasters of these two games on their own Battle.net client. On the same day, Blizzard also updated the Warcraft Battle Chest with these remastered releases.

Of course, those remastered releases from Blizzard are priced at $9.99 each or $39.99 for a Battle Chest with the first three Warcraft titles. The non-remaster versions are also available on Battle.net and cost $5.99 each. The Warcraft 1 and 2 bundle on GOG was $14.99. GOG is offering a discount code, MakeWarcraftLiveForever, that knocks off another $2 if you buy before the 13th. Naturally, that GOG release is also DRM-free.

if Blizzard is still selling the non-remastered versions as well, why pull it from GOG? It's possible those original releases will also be pulled from Blizzard's own storefront as well at the same time. However, nothing official has been announced on pulling those old releases outside of GOG.

Despite Warcraft being pulled from GOG, the company says that they will continue to support the games through the GOG Preservation Program. This means that they plan to continue supporting the Warcraft titles with updates that keep them working on new hardware for as long as possible, even if those games are no longer sold through their storefront.
