In 2021, Ziggurat acquired and put together a piece of media that was originally intended for release on the Atari Jaguar. What they released was presumed to be lost and canceled during development. That release was American Hero, a "passionate love letter to the Full Motion Video (FMV) classics of the 90s." In 2021, American Hero was released on PC and for consoles.
Now, Ziggurat is back with a "wilder, unfiltered" and "revealing" uncensored release called American Hero: Unrated Edition. This release will feature a cut of the second version of American Hero that was shot. American Hero: Unrated Edition features footage from that second, never before seen cut. It is full of "all of the profanities and uncensored content you could possibly need."
American Hero: Unrated Edition places you in the role of Jack, a retired American intelligence officer that is attempting to stop the evil plans of Krueger, "an insidious virologist intent on releasing a lethal virus into Los Angeles' water supply." The game is an homage to those classic '90s action flicks only with more outlandish situations and apparently a fair bit of T&A. There is also quite a bit of "gore, dismemberment, and profanity to satisfy degenerates worldwide."
According to this press release I'm reading, even the censored version that was released in 2021 was deemed to extreme for some digital storefronts. It was apparently banned from Steam prior to it ever being released. That's where GOG came in to... save the day? GOG carried the original release and they're carrying the new one now.
American Hero: Unrated Edition will hit GOG on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. Those that already own the original American Hero through GOG will be able to pick up the Unrated Edition for 60% off. The rated (censored) version of American Hero will be out on PlayStation 5 at the same time. The rated (censored) version of the game is still available on PlayStation 4, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

(Also not sure what triggered Steam to ban it though. The original didn't cross any lines, since everything that happens is satire and not representative of... Anything but cheesiness.)
