The free trial weekend is only for those on consoles.

From September 8 and running through September 11, those with an Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, or PlayStation 5 can play Madden NFL 23 for free. The free trial is being offered because the start of the NFL season begins this week.

You may think that sales are suffering for this year's release of Madden, but apparently that's not the case. EA says that Madden NFL 23 has seen a 30% increase in the number of games played in the first week when compared to Madden NFL 22. Whether or not that is a metric that necessarily equates to good sales numbers is anybody's guess.

If you like what you play during this free trial, you'll be able to pick up the "All Madden Edition" for up to a 25% discount. That is the more expensive version that you can purchase, and this press release seems to indicate that the cheaper version won't be on sale.

“Our team is passionate about creating the best experience for our players every time they start up Madden NFL 23 and we never stop improving the game after its release,” said Seann Graddy, Executive Producer, EA SPORTS Madden NFL “We’ve seen so much positive response to things like our new gameplay system, FieldSENSE and other features since launch and we look forward to continuing to deliver the best simulation football experience with new content throughout the NFL season.”

Through their increased play, Madden NFLplayers also overwhelmingly declared the Buffalo Bills as the team to watch this season as the Bills saw a 115 percent increase in usage compared to Madden NFL 22, making them the most popular team in the game. On top of being the most popular team, the Bills appeared in all five of the top most-played matchups with the Rams, Chargers, Buccaneers, Dolphins and Cowboys as their most common opponents. On the players' side, Josh Allen racked up the most passing yards and touchdowns of any quarterback, Stefon Diggs was the top receiver, newly traded Von Miller led in sacks and cornerback Tre’Davious White claimed the most interceptions.
