The announcement comes shortly after a leak made the rounds online.
Assassin's Creed Mirage

Ubisoft has officially confirmed a rumor that sprung up less than a day ago. The company announced via Twitter that the next Assassin's Creed game will be called Assassin's Creed Mirage. They also said that more information will be coming at the Ubisoft Forward event that is planned for next week.

Alongside confirmation of the new game, comes a single screenshot. The image shows off a character that may very well be the protagonist of the next game.

Ubisoft Forward will begin on September 10 at 3PM (ET) for those of you interested in seeing more official details about the game.

Just last night, leaks about this new title were starting to make their way around the Internet. One of the leaks showed off a character facing off against a shadowy figure.

According to those knowledgeable about the most recent game, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the person depicted in the images (official and leaked) is a character named Basim. This seems to line up with older rumors that suggested Basim would be the main character of the next Assassin's Creed title.

It's been suggested that the next game, Assassin's Creed Mirage, will be much smaller in scope. It will supposedly focus on more dedicated stealth sections instead of a massive, sprawling open-world. Plus, Ubisoft is still working on Assassin's Creed Infinity, which will be an evolving platform encompassing a number of future games, missions, characters, and more from the franchise's long history.
