Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, is in final negotiations to star in the live-action Minecraft film that is being worked on at Warner Bros. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, this film is set to be directed by Jared Hess, the director that brought us films such as Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre.
If Momoa joins the project, he will once again be working with Dune producers Mary Parent and Roy Lee. Minecraft will be executive produced by Jon Berg, Cale Boyter, and Jon Spaihts. Mojang's Lydia Winters and Vu Bui will also help produce the film.
Minecraft was the creation of Mojang Studios back in 2011. Just a few years after its initial release, the game amassed over 100 million players. This popularity led to Microsoft acquiring Mojang for a cool $2.5 billion (USD) back in 2014.
Jason Momoa has been in a number of high-profile films in recent years. He was in 2021's Dune and has portrayed Aquaman across several films including Justice League, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, and the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is slated for release in 2023. He is also well known for playing Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones.
