On May 24, Hardspace: Shipbreaker will leave Steam Early Access and will be released fully. The game has been in Early Access for about two years now and on the 24th, the 1.0 release will take place on PC via Steam, the Microsoft Store, and on PC Game Pass.
In Hardspace: Shipbreaker, you take on the role of a salvage worker that is looking to strip parts and materials from decommissioned spaceships. You will cut, pull apart, and destroy a variety of different spaceships. All of this is done in zero-g so the physics will probably throw you for a loop at the start.
There are several different classes of procedurally designed ships. They range in size from small transports to large freighter ships. The parts you salvage will lead to you upgrading your tools in order to take on larger and more valuable ships. You can even recover hazardous materials. This is all being done in an effort to pay back a dept you owe to your employer, the LYNX Megacorporation.
If you are attending PAX East, you will get to try out a playable demo for the game. Just stop by Focus Entertainment's booth (#12043) to try out the game's Freeplay game mode.
A console release of Hardspace: Shipbreaker is planned for some point in the future.
Take a break from the day-to-day work of a shipbreaker and flex your skills in competitive challenges against other players in the R.A.C.E. game mode leaderboards. And if you want to simply relax, hone your technique or just enjoy the calming, meditative nature of high-stakes salvage, you can play on any ship with no limits in the Freeplay game mode.
