2020 is the year that just won't let up. This time, we're being told that the 2020 Game of the Year at The Steam Awards was none other than Red Dead Redemption 2. That is surprising, to say the least, when its competition for the year included games like Hades, Death Stranding, Fall Guys, and even DOOM Eternal. But it is what it is and it is a GOTY winner when all is said and done.

Do keep in mind that this game was voted on by Steam users to be their GOTY. I don't necessarily agree with their choice. Hell, I'd go so far as to say that literally any of the other nominees should have won, but I am but one voice in a sea of hot takes, opinions, and shouting.

On the flip side of the coin, Half-Life: Alyx won for best VR Game of the Year. It bested games like Phasmophobia, The Room VR, Thief Simulator VR, and Star Wars Squadrons.

Other winners include:
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - Labor of Love
  • Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout - Better with Friends
  • Death Stranding - Most Innovative Gameplay
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 - Outstanding Story-rich Game
  • Apex Legends - Best Game You Suck At
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps - Outstanding Visual Style
  • DOOM Eternal - Best Soundtrack
  • The Sims 4 - Sit Back and Relax
You can, naturally, see all of the nominees in each category by heading on over to The Steam Awards page that Valve has set up. The Steam Winter Sale is also still going on for a couple more days. Maybe you'll want to pick up one of the games off of the winners' list.
