Serious Sam 4 is coming to PC and Stadia in August 2020. This will be the first new mainline entry in the series released since 2011's Serious Sam 3. It is once again being developed by none other than Croteam and published by Devolver Digital.
If you haven't yet tried out or experienced the over-the-top action that is the entirety of the Serious Sam franchise, you should check out the big Serious Sam sale happening right now on Steam. It looks like most of the main titles are being offered at discounts around 80% off. The VR games are 85% off for those of you who want to become more fully become Sam himself.
For sure, this is some exciting news for fans of the franchise. There's just one issue: Where are the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game?
It turns out that there is an exclusivity deal with Stadia that is preventing Serious Sam 4 from coming to consoles until 2021. You read that correctly. Stadia has an exclusive on this (along with Steam somehow) until 2021. Kotaku managed to get a brief statement from Devolver Digital about this deal.
“The game is still coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 after its period of exclusivity is over with Stadia,†a rep for publisher Devolver Digital told Kotaku over email, adding that those consoles won’t receive Serious Sam 4 until 2021 after further inquiry.
The initial reveal trailer for Serious Sam 4 can be found below. If you want more, there are also specific trailers that focus on combat, enemies, music, weapons, and the new Legion system that aims to get a lot more ("hundreds of thousands") enemies on screen at once.
If you aren't a Stadia user and don't want to wait for the PS4 or XB1 release in 2021, you can pre-order Serious Sam 4 right now from Steam starting at $39.99 (USD), or $49.99 for the Deluxe Edition.
I love these games, i even liked 3 despite its flaws though it's definitely the worst one so far, i only played a demo of the 2nd game a LOOOONG time ago so i really want to get around to playing through that at some point.
