Earlier today, Reggie Fils-Aime announced that the "New 3DS XL" will be released on February 13 in North America and Europe for $199.99 (USD). It will be released in red and black versions, or as a bundle with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and a special Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate branded New 3DS XL, or a gold Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask New 3DS XL. With the Zelda model, the phrasing on the announcement makes it sound like the game itself will be sold separate from the Zelda branded console. That's weird.
Even more strange is the fact that the system will NOT include an AC adapter bundled. Fils-Aime notes that the AC adapters from previous 3DS or DSi systems will work on the new device. If you don't own either of those, I'm guessing Nintendo feels like you should just go screw yourself or something. Seriously, that's incredibly stupid not to include that.
Alright, so the lack of an AC adapter is already super stupid, but what about the non-XL version of the "New 3DS?" That's not coming to North America. It's coming to Europe and Japan already has both models, but not North America. North America is stuck with the XL variant only and none of them come with AC adapters. The only positive to that is the fact that it's one less badly named Nintendo device to be confused about when shopping.

GameStop's New 3DS XL page.
EB Games' New 3DS XL page.
For craps sakes it's the same company with the same store setups. Couldn't they use the same website template?! Anyways, that's beside the point. Preorders are completely full for Canadians (according to a friend I spoke with, it only took 15 min after the announcement), and it looks like Majora's Mask is full for Americans. Probably only a matter of days before the Monster Hunter bundle is unavailable too.
Oh and the Monster Hunter bundle? Says Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is preinstalled to the console from both GameStop and EB Games... So are we not having the cartridge then? Is it associated with your eShop account, or is this one of those "don't delete the damn game under any circumstances"?

I was excited for the MH bundle until I found out it's a GameStop exclusive, AND it lacks an AC adaptor, AND I might not have the cartridge, AND there's not enough supply to meet demand for some regions. I wanted to get it in the store, but after seeing all the bullcrap, I don't even care that it's available online. I think I'll wait until Black Friday and get the normal console at a small discount like I did for my 3DS XL. I only had it for a year, and I thought it was a good deal until I heard Japan's announcement for the new 3DS line and how there will be games exclusive to it. Damn it... Oh well, looks like I'll be hanging on to it a bit longer until November or something.
