Steam Tags Launches in Beta - Allows Users to Add Custom Genres to Games

Another beta has hit Steam today by way of the new "Steam Tags" feature. This new feature will allow users to assign custom tags to games and those tags that are most common to a game will be added to the store listing for those games.

Now available in beta, Tagging gives Steam customers the ability to "Tag" any title with genres, themes, attributes, or any other term or phrase. The most popular tags on any given product will be surfaced on said product's Steam page and allow users to easily find other products associated with that same tag.

As with the "Recently Updated" section launched last week, Tagging is designed to provide more ways to discover interesting content on Steam.

Additionally, a related product section was launched today, making it easy to browse by any of the frequently used tags assigned by the community.

Valve has added a new FAQ for the tagging system.

  Not sure I'm a fan of these at the moment - but that's more from a developer's perspective!

  The tags for many games have been absolutely horrendous. Just some of the most juvenile crap I've seen on Steam. Valve either didn't even think this one through or they severely overestimated the maturity of the users.

  Yeah, I really don't get the tagging methods in this system. Sometimes things need to be kept simple and Im not really impressed with this system.

Major Steam Client Update Leaves Beta

Over a month of beta testing later, the update is ready for prime time.

In late April, Valve pushed out a beta update for the Steam client. This update was far more extensive than mere bug fixes or tiny tweaks here and there. This update has just left beta and is out for everyone using Steam.

Valve Issues Apology to Steam Users Following Christmas Day Security Leaks

On Christmas day, a severe security issue allowed Steam users to view the private account information for other Steam users.
