Highguard came out just about three weeks ago now, but layoffs have already hit the team at Wildlight Entertainment and they have hit them hard. According to a LinkedIn post from now-former Highguard level designer Alex Graner, "most of the team" for Highguard has been laid off.
Wildlight Entertainment was already a small development studio, comprised of roughly 100 employees. The studio was co-founded and staffed by several gaming industry veterans that worked on titles such as Apex Legends, Titanfall, the Call of Duty franchise, and more.
Unfortunately, along with most of the team at Wildlight, I was laid off today.
This one really stings as there was a lot of unreleased content I was really looking forward to that I and others designed for Highguard.
However, I'm excited for my next adventure. If your team or anyone you know needs an experienced Level Designer, hit me up!

Highguard officially launched on January 26, 2026 to mixed critical reviews. The game has already undergone some significant changes since that launch including shifting from 3v3 competitive matches to a 5v5 option. The studio was quite responsive to player feedback since its launch but the game has failed to find much success with player counts. Highguard made waves when it was revealed thanks to Geoff Keighley slotting the trailer in as the last major reveal during The Game Awards 2025.
