One of the four major titles shown off at yesterday's Xbox Developer_Direct is Beast of Reincarnation. This gorgeous looking game blends together elements of action, strategy, and mystery. The wildest part is that this one is coming from Game Freak, the studio best known for developing most (all?) of the Pokémon games.
During the Developer_Direct, Game Freak shared a new look at Emma and her companion Koo. The two embark on an adventure "in a haunting, post-apocalyptic Japan."
Emma is afflicted by something called "blight" which has removed her memories and even her emotions. However, this blight has also given her the ability to manipulate plants. Koo is a "malefact" dog that Emma befriends even though it is her role to hunt down malefacts. Still, the two with their unlikely bond, set out on a journey across Japan in the year 4026 AD.
Game Freak specifically calls Beast of Reincarnation as a "one-person, one-dog action-RPG." The combat in the game is a bit of a mashup of other systems. Emma has classic, fast-paced action attacks all carried out in real-time. However, Kook has skills that can be used from a menu that when activated slows down time a bit so you can make your choice. Koo's gameplay systems are more turn-based RPG in that sense.
From the footage shown off, the combat system feels like something that should be familiar to those who have played the recent Final Fantasy 7 remake titles.
For those that need a bit of additional adjustment to the gameplay, there will be three difficulty options to choose from.
