Prime Video from Amazon confirmed yesterday that Sophie Turner will be the next Lara Croft in their upcoming Tomb Raider series. Turner is the third person to portray Croft in a live-action adaptation of Tomb Raider, following both Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
You may remember Sophie Turner for some of her recent roles such as Jean Grey in the newer X-Men films, Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, and as Joan in the TV miniseries that is aptly named Joan. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Turner was the frontrunner for role, besting a short list of actors that also included Mackenzie Davis, Emma Mackey, and Lucy Boynton.
Turner will join Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Killing Eve) and Chad Hodge (Good Behavior) for Tomb Raider. Waller-Bridge and Hodge will serve as Tomb Raider's co-showrunners, with Waller-Bridge also writing. Jonathan Van Tulleken (Dope Thief) will serve as the director and executive producer on Tomb Raider.
Said Turner, “I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many — and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
