The store chain known for their furniture with funny names and their meatballs, IKEA, will soon put real people to work for real money inside of a virtual world. IKEA plans to hire about 10 people to work in "IKEA's virtual universe" inside of Roblox.
The Co-Worker Game, as IKEA calls it, will let you experience what it's like to work at IKEA, just virtually. There will be only a limited number of paid positions available, with applications being accepted until June 16th and the game itself launching inside of Roblox on June 24th. Interviews will be held virtually from June 14-18.
Those that are hired by IKEA for these positions will be paid £13.15 per hour. This is the same starting hourly rate "for a London co-worker." That £13.15 per hour is equal to about $16.82 (USD) per hour.
The immersive experience gives players the opportunity to experience IKEA's unique approach to careers where non-linear career journeys are the norm and lateral moves across departments are commonplace.
"We’re excited to be the first brand to launch paid work on Roblox to showcase how we do careers differently, bringing our unique careers philosophy to life. At IKEA, there is no set route to career progression. Our co-workers are able to change roles, switch departments, and grow in any direction they choose, both in the game or in the real world. There are many ways to learn and grow at IKEA, and that's what IKEA on Roblox is all about." - Darren Taylor, Country People and Culture Manager, IKEA UK and Ireland
