A partnership between Major League Baseball (MLB), the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and Sony's San Diego Studio was just announced today. The partnership will work together to include eight baseball greats from the Negro Leagues in MLB The Show 23.

The initial announcement came via the MLB's Twitter account this morning. Negro Leagues Baseball Museum president Bob Kendrick talked briefly about this partnership in the video. He says that this partnership will "take you on a journey back to the Negro Leagues and introduce you to some of the baddest brothers and sisters to ever play the game."

New to MLB The Show 23 is a game mode called Storylines: The Negro Leagues. As MLB details, this mode will get players acquainted with these eight Negro Leagues legends: Satchel Paige, Jackie Robinson, Buck O'Neil, Rube Foster, Hilton Smith, Hank Thompson, John Donaldson, and Martín Dihigo.

The Storylines feature of MLB The Show includes a narrative experience for each Negro League legend, with short videos about the players mixed with gameplay centered on important moments of the their careers.

All eight Negro League stars will also be available in exhibition mode of MLB The Show 23, and usable in other areas of the game, which will be announced at a later date.

"The best way I can explain it is, it's an amalgamation of a short documentary series combined with curated moments of gameplay. Each of the eight players has a storyline, and the coolest part is learning about these players then immediately being able to play as them in the game. That transition from the images and video to the on-field gameplay experience is powerful and immersive. The ambiance is carried through, from the uniforms, to the crowd and everything in between." - Ramone Russell, Sony product development communications and brand strategist
It seems like every new installment of MLB The Show coming down the line for the next several years will include additional legends from the Negro Leagues. The stories featured in each season of Storylines will be narrated by Kendrick.

Sony's San Diego Studio will also donate $1 to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum for every copy of MLB The Show 23 Collector's Edition that is sold from now through to the end of 2023. MLB The Show 23 will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on March 28, 2023.
