2K just announced the next installment in their near annual wrestling franchise. With WWE 2K22, 2K says that the game features a "redesigned game engine, new controls, stunning graphics, and all-new game modes."
We'll get to the reveal trailer in a moment. Before that, let's talk about the game's cover athlete. In celebration of his 20th anniversary as a WWE Superstar, the high-flying Rey Mysterio will be WWE 2K22's cover athlete. He has held multiple championships over the years and loves wearing his lucha libre inspired ensembles.
As for the game itself, WWE 2K22 is said to include the return of the 2K Showcase mode, this time starring Rey Mysterio. Players will get to relive iconic moments from Mysterio's past matchups. Also included in 2K22 is the MyRISE feature where you can "chart (your) own paths to superstardom."
Players can also fully customize their WWE experience through the Universe Mode and the upgraded Creation Suite. You can customize brands, premium live events, match results, rivalries, and more. You can also create custom Superstar personas, arenas, and championships. You can also share your creations with the world via cross-platform sharing, a first for the series.
Then there is the MyGM and MyFACTION modes. In MyGM, you play as a WWE General Manager and can call the shots to try to build the biggest brand in the WWE Universe. You can draft rosters, develop rivalries, and create championship showdowns. MyFACTION lets players collect and manage their dream faction with weekly events and regular updates.
WWE 2K22 is slated to be released on March 11, 2022 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. There are a bunch of different bundles available for pre-purchase right now, including the expensive $119.99 (USD) that allows you to play as members from the nWo.
WWE 2K22 features four editions of the game: Standard Edition, Cross-Gen Digital Bundle, Deluxe Edition, and – in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the New World Order faction - nWo 4-Life Digital Edition:
