The changes are more than just a new coat of paint.
Steam Mobile app update QR code login

Valve just passed along word that they have completely revamped the Steam Mobile App. Though it sports a new design and some new features, Valve also says that it's built using a new framework. The framework stuff is more of the "behind the scenes" aspect to all of this, but a new and updated framework should mean the app is more responsive for users.

Of the new features added is the ability to scan a QR code in order to sign into Steam on your desktop. This method means you won't have to put in a password. Alternatively, you can also just use the new sign in confirmation feature of the mobile app. This will let you confirm your Steam login with a simple "approve" or "deny" option. There's now also support for multiple Steam accounts in the app. This may have been implemented prior but I don't rightfully know for sure.

Also new to the app is the ability to check out the list of Authorized Devices where you have logged into Steam. This will let you see how recently said device was using the account. You will also be able to revoke access to that device if necessary, say if you forgot to log out while visiting a friend or sometthing.

Of course, the new Steam mobile app still lets you access areas like the Store, Community, News, and other common Steam places. You also have access to your Library so that you can start remote downloads of your games to your PC. You still have the ability to confirm Market sales and Trades.

The overall Steam browsing experience has been improved for mobile usage with this new client. It seems as though the biggest improvements are found in the general navigation and the Library view.

If you do not yet have the mobile app, you can grab it from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or as a standalone APK if you're feeling adventurous. If you already have Steam Mobile installed on your device, it should just automatically update to the new release, unless you disabled automatic updates for some reason.

Valve shared a couple of additional notes in this new app announcement. The standalone Steam Chat app is being updated with various bug fixes. Android users get that update today while iOS users will get it "soon."

Those of you with a Steam Deck will also soon get the QR sign in feature that the mobile app now has. There will also be some new notification types coming for all Steam clients along with the addition of the Authorized Devices list being added to the Steam Client and web browser.
