Google Teases Their New Gaming Console in GDC 2019 Promo Video

It's no secret that Google has been working on a gaming console. They've had a patent filed since late 2018 showing off the potential design for the new console's controller. It's kind of the typical console controller design that most of us have already come to know and probably love.

It's currently unclear as to what Google has planned for this device. Multiple sources have said that it will be a console that focuses on streaming. However, some rumors have suggested that the hardware included will make it more powerful than an Xbox One X. And while...

Indie Game Red Dead Redemption 2 Released Today

A little game called Red Dead Redemption 2 was released today for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms. The game was developed by a little studio called Rockstar Games and published by Take-Two. I'm sure we can all appreciate that a company like Take-Two extended a hand to these up and coming developers.
An epic tale of honor and loyalty set in the dying days of the outlaw age, Red Dead Redemption 2 follows Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang as they rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. Following

    Dying Light 2 Developer Interview

Dying Light 2 was officially announced about a month back during E3 2018. This week, we get a bit of an extended look at the game thanks to Digital Foundry and the game's developers at Techland. The video is over 11 minutes long, but focuses mainly the technology being used and the development of the game. Most of the footage is a rehash of what we saw out of E3 along with some footage of the first game.

The video is available at 4K streaming, or those that subscribe to Digital Foundry can get the 4K source file (before that oh-so-wonderful YouTube...

Forza Horizon 3 Gets Enhanced for Xbox One X with Native 4K

Microsoft informed everyone today that Forza Horizon 3 now has Xbox One X enhancements ready to download and install. This free update, available to everyone playing the game on the Xbox One X, increases the resolution to 4K and adds in some additional visual improvements. Alongside the 4K resolution bump, the game incorporates 4xMSAA! The image quality is absolutely insane already but that's not all. Some of these smaller improvements include better car reflections, higher quality shadows, and improved texture detail for the terrain.
    In addition, 4K resolution

The Surge is Not Dark Souls and That's Okay (Review)

    Reborn from the Fallen
There is a very interesting thing happening with reviews for Deck13's new action-RPG The Surge. It's something I saw before and something I myself am guilty of, especially when it comes to Deck13's previous release, Lords of the Fallen. That "interesting thing" I have noticed is a move to compare each and every aspect of The Surge to the Dark Souls games. That alone is fine but the thing I cannot stand is the fact that some are actually upset, even borderline mad, that a new action-RPG would even dare to not completely rip off...

Five Ways Xbox Project Scorpio Improves Xbox One and Xbox 360 Games

The lid is now being blown off of Project Scorpio, the new Xbox console coming from Microsoft later this year. The first video from Digital Foundry takes a look at how Scorpio will improve both Xbox One and Xbox 360 games. For those who can't sit through the entire video the key highlights are:
    1. Smoother performance and no screen-tearing (won't magically turn a 30fps game into a 60fps game however)
    2. Dynamic resolution titles will now run at the maximum possible resolution
    3. Improved texture filtering
    4. GameDVR supports high quality 4K 60FPS game recording
    5. Faster

Xbox Project Scorpio Reveal Coming Thursday via Digital Foundry

Digital Foundry and Eurogamer announced this week that they will have an exclusive reveal of Project Scorpio, or "Xbox Scorpio" as they are calling it. For those unfamiliar with the name, Project Scorpio is the upcoming hardware revision for the Xbox that will add more power in almost every regard to the platform. Think of it as a superboosted Xbox One Pro much like the PlayStation 4 Pro was for the PlayStation 4.

Project Scorpio is expected to be released later this year. The reveal will come at 9AM (ET; 6AM PT)....

Sony Using 50Hz PAL Versions of PlayStation 2 Games on PlayStation 4

Sony is apparently trying to remain incredibly faithful to the original PlayStation 2 releases of the games they recently put on the PlayStation 4. In the UK, the emulated PS2 releases are again running at 50Hz and converted to a 60Hz output. This creates some weird frame-blending effects that look bad to the player and result in "frame-pacing issues" that resemble micro-stutters or hitching when the framerate is actually perfectly fine. It's quite easy to see the effect in the video below.

Digital Foundry noticed this in a number of games they recently...
