Spike Spiegel wrote..Yes,
Valve made the cheat protection that is now in Half-Life officialy.
They updated Half-Life since it's release.
They even included TFC.they aquired the TF label and team from Quake2,
And eventually Counter-Strike.they also aquired Counter-Strike. Please get this straight people, Valve didn't make Counter-Strike... they didn't even make it popular. The design and community made it popular, and Gooseman made Counter-Strike.

They don't try to put bugs in the game. It's not like betas are a scavenger hunt to see who can find all the funny little bugs in the game. If there are bugs that they know exist then they're not going to just release it and sip on a cappuccino on the patio of their summer cottages in Venice Beach while 40 people crash because they tried to jump through the door running backwards with nightvision goggles.
bLaCKaT wrote..Agree, but they still have to get rid of all the bugs that they can find before releasing the beta. The last beta I did, de_torn almost 2 years ago, was mostly to see how it ran on a poorly set up pc. The map was pretty much finished and perfected, but obviously due to the nature of PC's some software runs better on particular setups. I'm sure that Valve would rather concentrate on killing these sort of issues than rushing out a knowingly buggy project, leaving a million and one people to complain about the same bug.

You use the software to it's extent, and then some. You try to find all the bugs so that some unfourtunate bug doesn't creep into the CAL-i or CPL finals... (ahem... like the age old Nuke bug that screwed zEx over twice in CPL?)
bLaCKaT wrote..That's a delicious theory but also wasn't what I was talking about. If there are bugs that they know exist, they're going to fix them, not simply shrug it off and release it anyhow (which is one of the reasons "delays" exist). Betas are about finding bugs that the team DOESN'T know about, so that they can fix them.
