I'd rather see a game company make a deadline and keep you updated about it and explain why it was missed, or a company that doesn't say anything at all, than a company that makes a deadline and doesn't say crap about it.

Apparently there wasn't enough bugs to delay it from premiering at the CPL on the machines there (which the build of that version was probably 3 weeks to a month old prior to the CPL). If they say a date, they usually expect the software to be ready by then. Most companies don't just "guess" at which day it's going to be done... there is a plan.
That's a delicious theory but also wasn't what I was talking about. If there are bugs that they know exist, they're going to fix them, not simply shrug it off and release it anyhow (which is one of the reasons "delays" exist). Betas are about finding bugs that the team DOESN'T know about, so that they can fix them.
I feel very sorry for zEx though ?
A release plan. Something that Valve has lacked for awhile now
.
And yes, you should feel sorry for zEx... and your not hopefully one of those people that still think they are "nubs" or "config hackers". I give my props to zEx.Comment

Acutally I'm one of those people that doesn't like clans and doesn't know/care about zEx or other config hackers.

What would you rather have?- » A buggy version of CS 1.6 Beta and think it's the shittiest thing in the word...
- » A near "Major Bug-less" version of CS 1.6 Beta that you would enjoy.

Because it is in ALPHA testing. ALPHA = Internal Testing. ALPHA to resolve those obvious bugs that thousands of BETA testers would probably report soonoffish. ALPHA to fix enough bugs so that BETA can be used for general testing for those hard-to-find bugs which may exist. BETA to test the balance of the weapons. Per ce?
You seem to forget this is a BETA the whole point of a BETA test is to find bugs. My dollar-bet the reason that the BETA isn't out yet is because STEAM hasn't been fixed yet; or they haven't gotten the bandwith from Speakeasy yet.Comment

Are you a Microsoft employee btw?
How much software have you tested before? That's exactly what a BETA is... to find all the bugs you can before a piece of software is released retail (or in this case) to the masses.
You use the software to it's extent, and then some. You try to find all the bugs so that some unfourtunate bug doesn't creep into the CAL-i or CPL finals... (ahem... like the age old Nuke bug that screwed zEx over twice in CPL?)Comment

Not they're fault someone asked in an interview, and it wouldn't change jack, people would be all 'It's comming out 2007, I bet' if they didn't.
Then they shouldn't give release dates at all.
So a company is honest about when they're AIMING to release a Public Beta Test, it's something I admire, and if they're late, then they're doing it for the Good of CS. They are trying to do what's best for Counter-Strike to keep a large user base, and if they release Steam and it's not perfect you'll get everyone going 'Steam is gay' like they did after 1.0.
But I find the Steam System great. 2 times faster to download a game then install it from a cd at a 512kilobit connection. Also scince it sends the data in a 4:1 compression and it's in a cache. People claim it hasta download EACH time you play but it _DOES NOT_. Once you have joined a server once and have most of everything in the cache, it takes 10 seconds to join a server, 30 seconds if you don't have a map. And this is from Steam 1.0. 2 will obviously be improved.
Anyway, delaying the Beta is good, some people say 'Who cares? Give us a buggy one', but like Steam 1.0, people will claim it's 'gay' and for 'fags' even though it's a Beta. Even if CS 1.6 is buggy, Steam 2.0 itself needs to be self-promotional and not turn off a buncha ignorant cs players.Comment

Yes, but they can't stick to a plan if they find previously unknown bugs that need to be fixed.

I don't know why I'm wasting my time on this thread.Comment

To be honest, when I paid my £19.99 3 years ago, I was paying for Half Life 1.0, the fact that since then I have updated Half Life and CS so many times *FOR FREE* is still amazing to me. I admit it is irritating to have to wait, but Valve dont owe anybody a bean, especially not a bunch of grumpy CS players. Be grateful that when CS went to 1.0, they kept it free for owners of Half Life. If this was Sony, MS or some other money grabbers you would have been paying through the nose by now...
Well here they have 7 minutes left, but as usual, like they are doing with, CZ, valve dumped us again, those sons of bitchesComment
