I think you hit it right on the head Ghost. I'd ask those who are so vehemently opposed to so-called spawn camping if they have ever killed an enemy who spawned at a point they were in the middle of taking. If the answer is yes, then their spawn-camping argument is hypocritical.

I've seen threads where people suggest a sort of magical force-field around people who spawn so that they have time to get their bearings to fight back. That is just a joke of an idea. How many of you that have played for more than an hour or two can say that you waited for a spawner to get their bearings before you killed them. I'll bet that answer is zero.

Maybe the solution would be to have a server rule where we line up across from one another and wait until someone calls out "fire".

Re: I'm becoming increasingly annoyed with BF2 for one reason:

Base/spawn camping depends on the map, ie if I spawn as USMC on Wake and manage to get into an F35 first, I'll bomb the first threat on the beach, then proceed to keep their J10s and helo grounded. Again, on Oman, spawning on the carrier, I'll do my best to keep the MEC aircraft on the ground and continously orbit the MEC AF until I've either run out of ammunition or my aircraft damage is critical.
If the other team really is that bad and we push them all the way back to their uncap, then again, anything on the ground in the base is fair game. Of course, at any moment a flag is going down, or there's a tank pummelling a group of friendlies, then I'll break off and give it some lovin'.
When playing Euro Force maps like Operation Smoke Screen, and I'm in the air, my number one priority is the other team's mobile air defences, followed by marauding tank columns.
Each map and the flow of the game requires different tactics if your team is to win, those who constantly fly to the other base and try to camp it without any thought for what is happening elsewhere are useless to the team. Those who adapt and recognise threats as they appear have my respect, regardless of whether that threat happens to be taking off or rolling out of an uncap.
When on the receiving end of base camping, I'm more likely to become frustrated with my own team for bending over and letting it happen.

Your a top retard arent you?

They were not in a tank, they were in planes. The air defence guns were destroyed. Its a ****ing mod its about fun not about stats in my opinion, why base rape when they could attack a plane or attack a flag. How is it my own mistake if they are base raping? I did not say spawn raping which is avoidable. You can just spawn somewhere else, but if you want a chopper or a quad or whatever in the game you have to spawn at the base.

Sloi hit the nail on the head when he said they dont want a challenge they just want easy kills.

Have you played COD Terroser? You can only be shot once in a round, how did you work that out? Its a deathmatch you respawn over and over in the round, theres is constant spawn raping in that game far more than BF2.
        hmmm top retard, maby!
Just learn to play , because my first account my ratio is 1.75
and on my second account 1.90

And you see at my stats, I'm a infrantry man.
And I am smart enough, to don't get raped. insteadI make a squead with best top 5 of my team.

        Also if I get RAPED.
I'm spamming the chat that people most spawn as anti-tank.
and that always help in a noob team.

        and about the planes!
take can take only max 5 people out at once so..
and two planes are 10 people max! what are the other 10 people doing.....
and if they get raped on a carrier, don't be a noob and spwan in the carrier

        ----------

CoD have more mods like SD
and bf2 only one mode and that is CQ

First I must press the 4 key to arm the missle, can't jump and shoot, don't have time to aim, and if by some miracle I get a shot off and it hits, I still need three more to take out the armor.

that you have no skills with your keyboard.

and why most you shoot in the air.

maby it's defense against the splash damage from a tank shell or something, or somebody is aiming at your head by a spawn.

that I always do! and it works for 50%
just hit your spacebar if the timer is at 0 and you will direclty jump if you spawn, in that time you cold switch your weapon.

and also if you didn't know you don't have to zoom to guide a missle.
also hitting a tank from 10 m isn't that hard you know with out guiding the missle.

Yes because you already have 0.20 invinsbilty
                    if you spawn.

if you don't believe my I will tell you a little story:

I was umsc and I was shooted dead. from a long distance
So i looked at me map and I saw one squad leader with no team mates ta take the flag.

so I squadhop to the other squad and clicked on the mobile spawn.
So I spawn, but on the exact time the arrtillery shoot at my dear squadleader on me.
                    but i was not dead!!

I was freaking flying high (50m) because of the arrtillery blast
just only those 20mille seconds kept me alive

                    -----------------------

SO enough time to hit your space bar or something else.

However, I also look at it as if my team had worked together more effectively or simply performed better overall, we wouldn't be holed up with only one spawn point. And if we are holed up at only one spawn point by an effective enemy team, I feel they have the right to exploit their advantage they worked hard for. They pushed us back into a corner and now are commencing on the beating we deserve.

It happens to me when I'm out done, and I do it to others when I outdo them.

I've also broken out of being based raped. It's a different mindset and you don't do what you normally do. It's a mad dash of luck to try and get out. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. In fact, I find most times my own team is to blame more often than not for not helping to break out. They dig in and try to defend the uncappable... wtf? What are they defending? Get out, run like mad and try to get another point capped ASAP.

I dunno, like I said, I see both sides of the issue. But I'm just too indifferent to care one way or the other. I try to know the local server rules I play at and simply respect them appropriately... Don't like base raping? Find a server that doesn't allow it and only play on it when admins are present. Not too hard of a requirement to find if you ask me.

Personally, I'm more annoyed with the whiners than any game mechanic itself.
I agree. While I won't typically rape an uncap while there are lots of other flags out, a team that is beaten back certainly deserves to be held there. The point is to win the map and by keeping them holed up in their uncap, you will do just that.

As for spawncamping ..... that's weak and ****es me off to no end. Don't do it. Have a little pride in your own ability to shoot a soldier once he has a chance to orient himself and fire back.

There is nothing better than breaking out of a situation where your team is holed up in one spot and being pummeled. Like AnotherEd mentioned above ... your mindset needs to change. This is the one part of the game that really frustrates me about other players.

Let's use Karkand (since it is the example that everyone always uses). You are on MEC and down to your last point. Everyone is charging at train and trying to get it. One big shootout right in the middle. Obviously, the last point can be capped, so some people need to defend, but the rest of the people need to run like hell to wherever they can. Too many times, I have made it out of there and capped hotel or suburbs or some other flag and NOBODY spawns there. It is recapped right away and I'm eventually hunted down. If people would pay attention and spawn at the damn flag, the whole map could turn around. Ok.....that was my gripe....

Anyhow, I find that most times a team gets baseraped is when there is absolutely no teamwork whatsoever. These are also the same times that you won't get support when you call for it, won't get first aid or revived, have teammates shooting you for vehicles, etc etc..... Basically .... a "team" that is comprised of a bunch of idiots deserves what they get. Just sucks when you happen to be on that team....

So if you are in the middle of capping a flag and an enemy spawns in your field of view you wait for them to shoot first so that you're being "fair"?

That is talking about two different things.

To me, spawnraping means intentionally standing near a spawn point or sitting in armor and NOT CAPPING THE FLAG. Simply waiting for people to spawn so you can shoot them and rack up kills.

If someone spawns next to me while I happen to be attacking the flag, you better believe I'm going to shoot them. Same thing happens to me. That's life and it happens. Bad timing and not much you can do about it.

I'm talking about the people who have no intention of capping the flag and just hang out on top of a spawn point. That's weak. If you are capping the flag and I happen to pop up in front of you .... please shoot me. LOL I'll do the same to you.

I honestly went back and read your post, and the only point I could find was a counter argument to my suggestion of letting them get organised.

Fair enough if people are defending flags instead of baseraping, it's going to be harder for them to cap a flag, So what? It's no skin off your nose if a team that already sucks can't organise themselves and make a decent attempt at assualting a position. You're still proving your superiority by holding your flags, but admit, it's gotta be harder to keep what you've got than base rape. It's a more sporting approach, and it might allow the game to get interesting.
No offense taken on the American comment. :-P (although your assumption was correct, I am indeed from America)

I still see no reason to let them get organized. If a team is so organized to start with and doesn't have the cooperation to keep even one flag at the front, I see no reason to let them regain that foothold. That's why we have ticket limits, the round has to end. If a team is pushed back to their uncap and getting camped into oblivion, then it's just going to end a round faster that's already been decided. That way the round restarts or a new map loads, giving that team another chance to get their act together and learn from their mistakes of the previous round.

Of course, I could play the card that it's called conquest for a reason. Conquest, quite simply, means to conquer. You don't conquer by sitting back and doing nothing, you conquer by being aggressive and going after the enemy. And if a team lost all their flags, the only place left for them to be is in their uncappable. And again, if they got themselves pushed back there, don't expect them to come out organized. This is only going to happen in an extremely rare case where perhaps a group of people that have planned tactics ahead of time raid a server and get on the same team (this includes clans as well). If it happens just out of statistical probability on a public server, then someone call Disney, I think they might be interested in the comeback and make a movie out of it.

If it were up to me, there wouldn't be any uncappable mains, and the "supply lines" style of play would replace conquest. You'd get your "omg suicidal offensive of doom!" style of gameplay that EA seems to stress for the ADHD stricken people out there, and also you get a battle that's got something a little more at stake: all your flags can be taken. And the only way to get another one is go through the enemy instead of just find some obscure path around and pray the commander doesn't arty you.

But that isn't what you said. You said it was unsporting to kill your opponent before he/she oriented themselves post spawn.

I'm not an advocate of sitting on a cappable spawn in armor without capping it, but sometimes it kind of just happens when you're waiting for your squaddies to wake up and take the real estate. I prefer to take any flag that I can so that the team has another point to spawn from, but if you're alone in your armor (as often happens on pubs) trying to cap a flag by yourself makes you very vunerable to C4 or AT. Best bet is to hang back and wait for support to come in and cap the flag. If enemies pop up in that period of time, well then it sucks to be them.

Do you have a different opinion of spawn camping snipers? Or is that ok in your book? I don't understand how people who think it is not ok for a tank, but it is ok for a sniper (or other ground pounder).

There are good arguments for and against baseraping/spawn camping, and we are clearly not going to ever come to a consensus on this.

But to steer the thread back on to the topic of sportsmanship, baseraping aside, it would be good to see more of it around. I've said it before, it would just be nice to see, even if it is just a 'GG' or 'nice shot' here or there.
