Let's try this again: if the base can taken, attack it all you want. It is not unsportsmanlike to prepare the site for your infantry.

If it cannot be taken, stay away from it. It is unsportsmanlike to attack your enemy in the one base you cannot take from them, especially when other locations are ready to be capped.

I won't be expending any more energy on this thread, as only three people really understood any of it. I suppose I will have to make do with your kind out there, but let it be known that I won't show you anymore courtesy: you brought it on yourself...

I get a kick out of the bomber that repeatedly bombs an enemies uncap's runway. I get why they are doing that. I mean...they are afraid, that if the plane got up, they would more then likely be shot down. Powww babbies.
I guess we should all just take baserapping (uncaps) and look at it, as the only way certain people can attain any score at all, let alone a possibility for a win.

And after 10PM, When their welfare fathers finally have passed out from the alcohol, and their older sisters, return from that last trick turned, for that family loaf of bread...and when the mother, who just sneaked back from the next door neighbors house, doing God knows what...well when these unsupervised 10 year olds, are finally forced to bed........the rest of us can finally get a good game going. (like this isnt a typical scenerio at most 1337s homes....rightttt)

I understand your point of view, but I just don't agree with it. Nothing wrong with not having the same point of view. It isn't anything personal, or isn't a lack of intelligence by the party who disagrees.

If the practice bothers you then make it a point to seek out campers and kill them. That way you can stifle a tactic that you find despicable and can have fun at the same time.

By keeping your chopper grounded I am preventing it from clearing those areas for your infantry, thereby assisting in the defense of my flags.

If you want anyone to take you seriously you are going to have to explain why it being an uncap makes it any more unsporting to kill someone there. I will agree that it is unsporting in and of itself to attack someone when you know they are at a terrible disadvantage, but from the sporting angle it doesn't matter if you do it at a cappable or uncappable base. The state of the base is a non-issue.

As I have said before, you are just looking to justify your desire for a free ticket for getting your chopper into the air. You are a hypocrite. It is probably best that you are done with this thread, as you are getting thoroughly housed in it.

I never rape anyone before they get in the air. Unlike you, I actually AM sportsmanlike, regardless of how naive this "tactic" may be.

What's your in-game name ? I'll be looking out for you when I begin using the tactic you praise so much. Send it to me in PM, because I've removed the bookmark to this thread and won't be re-visiting.

Why get bothered over it? You stated an opinion about a style of play incompatible with your own. Key word - opinion. There are those of us who disagree with you and can make a rational argument (at least in our own minds) against your opinion. I'm not taking it personally that we don't agree and I don't think you a lesser intellect because of it. Why not take the same approach? What fun would these forums be if we were all in groupthink?

Kind of like the last time you said you wouldn't be back?

So which is it? Now you say you always let people get in the air, before you said if it was a cappable flag they were fair game... stop contradicting yourself. All I want is a simple question answered. You have objected to the practice of base rape as being unfair and unsportsmanlike. I believe this is just an excuse for other motives, but lets take you at your word and believe that it is just unsporting play that you don't like. In your own words, tell me how it is not sporting to shoot a plane taking off from the carrier, but at the same time it is ok if you do it to one taking off from a cappable airfield.

My problem is that the people who say it is so horrible to shoot a plane on the carrier, will have no problem shooting one at a cappable base. Using terms like fair play and sportsmanship are not valid excuses. If you truly were upset about those things, you would be just as upset about someone raping the cappable airfield, because from the view point of fair play it is the exact same thing.

Yeah, but this is a videogame. So, I don't get your point.

I've been doing a lot of commanding and have noticed that uncap rape is getting bad. I was a lone commander the other day against a gang rape of 5 guys. It was nuts. I had to spawn elsewhere and drive back to fix my stuff. They were after the tanks and such.

I was a little mad, but oh well. It was a well fought loss on our part. By the way, we never would have lost if I could have kept my equipment. I was prevented from all command for about 4 minutes. I could only drop supplies to my guys.

Don't forget this is just a game.

Agreed. Sloi came here to complain about the lack of sportsmanship. Yet when we compile logical arguments based on our opinions to the contrary he gets upset, picks up his toys and runs home. Sportsmanship is about... well.. hell check this out http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=sportsmanship

Conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, striving spirit, and grace in losing.
"grace in losing", "courtesy"... oh my. Looks like Sloi is missing a few of these aspects himself. "striving spirit" hrm... he just left. He's calling us out on "fair play" but he's seemed to have misplaced the other aspects within his own character. Ah well we all have our issues.

Sloi, honestly, I hope you take all this debate as a positive thing. It's cogitated us, but at the same time, I'm afraid neither sides of this debate have really come to any more realization than when it started. Sometimes these things go this way.

To me it sounds like they employed a great strategy. They were able to disrupt what you needed to do. That is why they make commander assets destructible and gave a SpecOps C4. A couple of dedicated SpecOps can really take a commander off their game and change the way things turn out. You did the best you could. It was up to your team members to get back there and fix & defend your stuff. I play often as engineer, typically in armor, and when I see any commander assets destroyed I immediately go to fix them and kill the interloper. A good commander will immediately say thanks. Protecting a commander and commander assets should be a primary concern for one or more of a teams members. If they aren't, then the commander should request repair support or say "defend this position".

I'd like to add my own experiences from the new player perspective rather than from the old hand.

I'm still new to the game and I'm only playing it for an hour or two at weekends. I just don't have the time in my life to give a video game more time than that.

I spent Sunday afternoon trying to get a decent game.

I couldn't find any squads for most of the afternoon that actually worked as squads. It seemed like players joined a squad and then ignored the squad members. Mostly I didn't seem to get any orders from a Commander.

In most games I got shot or blown up as soon as I spawned and didn't seem to get the chance to spawn elsewhere.

Its very disheartening when you are new to a game and you need that chance to get some experience and someone is stood there waiting for you to spawn and shooting you immediately. I tried multiple servers and had similar experiences all over the place.

This took place on a number of different maps too.

I did get one enjoyable game on a server called something like Trinity Gaming.

I decided to try out the sniper kit and had a fine old time sneaking across the hills between bases and trying to help my team defend the flags.

I tended to miss more than I hit my opponents but then thats fair enough. I need to practice more and I need to improve my aim. Still I got a handfull of kills. I spent a lot of time looking through the scope and scouring the landscape. At one point I went back to normal view and found an enemy running up the hill toward me. I only just took him out in time. That was quite a buzz.

If more experienced players continue to make the new player experience such that we can't even move before we are dead; all that will happen is people will stop playing it and the older players will get even more bored.

Please don't make me go back to playing World of Warcraft.

In my opinion it is down to the player to find a server which suits his game type. Personally I hate spawn campers, therefore I play on servers which specify no attacks on the uncaps as part of their server rules. Indeed this makes up part of our server rules, and I would expect admins to enforce this. On another server, on another day, I made a comment about someone bombing an uncap and the admin told me that this was allowed, I have no problem with that and my mistake for coming onto the server. Not the mistake of the guy doing the bombing.

Choose your server carefully, then you will have less to complain about.
The problem w/ that is where do you consistantly draw the line?
