Stay low and run from bush to bush, and lay prone when you are near a lot of enemies, don't run off like they have already seen you. Also keep in mind the color of your camoflauge.
My record is so far is 3 passes with 10 kills 0 deaths. I got this from 77th|Rider, thanks to him I've gotten better.
good tip, unfortunatly UAV is your enemy on wake, so easy to get cornered or spotted, but ofcourse if you pay attention and look to the sky and lay claymores in shrubbery (the way they are meant to be used :p, booby traps to defend your exit route) then you should be good. I still like taking a friend out on a boat and sniping away from the UAV'ed snipers :P

Yeah, that's another thing I should have brought up. If you see a UAV above you, call in a choppe or jet or lastly, a nearby teammate to shoot it down. Though that may give you away, having a support class teammate guns a blazing at the UAV, it's better than being precisely pinpointed on the map. And your pistol can't do much to the UAV, so if you must, aim ahead of it and shoot.

find me a UK server where someone would actually do that rather than just leg it and I would, but teamplay is becoming thin on the ground on British/Euro Wake servers

I've tried the bullet drop thing, but what are the numbers mean under the crosshairs?

Amazing guide; great read. Very nice, this should definitely help my poor sniping skills! :)

So what was your point into coming here and starting an argument, mate? No hard feelings. I just check this forum to see if anyone has posted more tips, not to see you argue.
Read my first post and find out. I threw in my two cents, I accidentally deflated the wrong person's ego, and the discussion from then sort of derailed the topic.

You're coming in here and saying that sniping is pointless, be brave and charge into the action.
The thread's about effective tactics to use while sniping, but the effectiveness of certain tactics and the overall usefulness of the kit are two different things. My resentment is towards the ineffective, self-centered style of play almost every sniper I see engages in.

...which is why you're posting in the wrong thread. This is a Tactics thread, not a "OMGz I Hate n00B Snipaz ScUmZor" thread. Post if you're gonna help only; all your posts are doing is racking up page numbers and requiring readers, like me, to flip through thousands of your meaningless posts.

                Flame me if you must...

BTW @ Jemme 101 - I tried your Pistol + Rifle combo as opposed to the Rifle + Pistol combo, and it seems to be working very well for me. People aren't as likely to run when plugged with 2 pistol rounds, and they just stand there aiming at me when get them with my M95, as opposed to me shooting with the rifle first and people running for their lives to a medic.

Another tip for sniping on Wake Island:

Put claymores in the bushes in somewhat random places. Enemy troop movements (especially going east to Airfield) often run over the bushes and hills and a few specially placed claymores screws them. And usually, if one explodes, the others will run away and be exposed to your watchful eye.

                  Just a thought.

It depends more or less on which map you play if you get of a good shot in after those first few pistol rounds offcourse. I had the most success with this one in Ghost Town and Sharqi Peninsula, but if you work it more you can use it on most maps up to that 150 meter distance. Try combining it with having your target out in the open so you gain an extra split second in which he will have to make up his mind where to go for cover. Prone targets give you even more time offcourse especially since they altered the time from going prone to getting up somewhat. The Pistol+Rifle combination (or vice versa) is just another way of having some fun with the Sniper kit. Just like rotating your Sniper spots if you are that stationary Sniper as opposed to the Designated Marksman.

I've just created a seperate thread devoted to positions in Strike on Karkand. View it here. http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71034.

Positioning in Wake Island also pending. Jemme, I'd appreciate your help in created a database for positions in people's favourite Special Forces maps and perhaps Sharqi? I'll be sure and link it up if you could make somthing similar to mine for alternate maps. Just a thought.

                            Re: Success with Sniping

Had a good, challenging sniper session yesterday on 32 Clean Sweep.

I was SL and my guys spawned as sniper too. Climbed up on the ridge near the maintenance flag and me and a member were instantly sniped by an SVD.

                            Hmmmm...okay, a challenge.

Respawned and we both got him (in guard house) at the same time. Slipped over to the abandoned village and started getting sniped at again. No gunshots, just nearby bullet hits.

Got a few snipers at the flag and was still getting nearby hits. Scoped around from cover and finally saw him - hovering prone above the ridge. He was lying down and due to some glitch, his entire body appeared to hover above the ridge.

I spotted him for my guys to show his position and due to his effectively using cover, it took us abuot 5 minutes to finally get him.

Moral of story: Don't lie on ridges, communicate with your squad members, be patient, and don't stay in the same spot after your shoot.

heh... first off, what a thread started as and what it turns into don't have to be the same thing. I'm following the discussion, which has strayed from the original topic, so what?

And second, as far as hating "noob sniper scum," it's perfectly within the realm of tactics to discuss WHY I hate them, highlighting ineffective tactics to avoid and providing alternatives. Which I have. It is also within the realm of tactics to suggest that knowing WHEN to snipe is an important factor, not just HOW to snipe.

Is your terrain detail set to low? Because that can cause things like that.
