That KDA/kills-thing is something you wanna press home but is in fact irrelevant in the sniper-community. Accuracy and KDR is what counts and offcourse dedication measured by the number of kills total on the Rifle. The fact you think you have to walk around with your Rifle out the whole time is also irrelevant because none of the high ranked Snipers does that while on the move. There is also a whole new batch of Snipers appearing in the list doing the same thing atm, which I found out myself yesterday on a UK server and a Dutch server.

You basicly get 2 types of Snipers in this game, the Designated Marksman and the Scout/Sniper. They each have a different role.
While the DM sticks near a force to break strongpoints in the enemies defense or provides sniper-cover when advancing the Scout moves away from the main force and snipes targets of oppurtunity and provides Intel for the whole force. Or even redirects his own side towards certain key areas if neccesary.
The DM will get more kills but die more often, the Scout will get less kills in comparison but will also die less. I usually prefer the Scout over the DM because its more easy going and is a perfect thing to play after a hectic day IRL :) There is nothing wrong with that.

The problem you, PHPT, have with that is that you think guys like FlyingEgg, blade.verzilli TF and myself belong to the vast majority of wannabee snipers that are only interested in KDR/Acc. We are not, its only amusing to find out how high up we can get that number and to keep ourselves sharp and striving for a personal goal we set. Nothing else.

I don't care about the "sniper-community." All that does for me is further prove they have no clue what to do with their kit. Tell me, why is KDR a better measure than KDA/kills over time?

That isn't the point, the point is to separate rifle KDR, which is totally ****ing irrelevant, from the kit KDR.

You certainly are doing an excellent job of implying that, especially since (again) you brag about it in your sig.

But no, the only thing I envision the "vast majority" of snipers as doing is sitting back behind the lines fantasizing about how they're being one of the more useful members of their team, when in reality they're not doing much more than trying to become the sneakiest bastard on the planet. They're more concerned with none of their kills having any idea where the shot came from than actually providing a benefit to their team.

The value of a good sniper lies not so much in how well they shoot, but in their ability to spot hostiles for (aware) assaulting troops and to force the hostiles to move from their defensive positions by sniping at them, thereby revealing themselves. Be nice if they got kill damage assist points for it, but that'll never happen.

A few headshots and a few claymores sprinkled around along the way helps matters too.

I must say that Jemme101 are really impressive. He does deserve credit for that. KD ratio of 11:1 ALMOST means for every ticket he loses for the team, he takes down 11 from the other side.

Did I say it wasnt a better measure? I said the sniper-community doesnt care for that Stat. Try reading before posting.
And if you dont care about the sniper community why are you still here posting in this thread about sniping?

Yeah the kit tells so much more ... like all those people taking sniper kits and fly around in J10's 24/7, play commander, Claymore spam, etc. Dude stop shooting yourself in the foot its painfull to watch and read

O sorry, so its better to have a sig like you have with lots of non-relevant BS in it

You got it all figured out dude, each and every sniper is the same. Very gg in solving that mystery. O wait it was one of your own making, because you just like to read back your own nonsense and Troll some more here.

But txs for posting your thoughts on what snipers are and should do and what not etc bla bla, but you are running around in circles chasing your own tail with this one. I for one am through replying to you so have fun boring the crap out of the rest of these people.

Thats not true because I get killed more often than that when I am on the move. Check my Kit stat which is 2.88 or something But when I am in position and sniping away these days I can get 30:1 averages out of the Rifle. Artillery is the only thing atm preventing me from getting a higher average.

Very nice post, i just got my vet on TriggerSpasm so its shaping up nicely :) taking to be a bit more daring with sprinter shots and movement judging, knowing the lay of the land is a very good plus for a sniper, knowing common positions to hit the deck etc. knowing who's moving towards them

                      my rifle stats
                      Sniper Rifle

                      Shots:1083
                      Hits:515
                      Accuracy: 48 % and rising

                      Sniper kit totals

                      K/D: 689:333

also do alot of pistol finishers if they are close enough, or if i hear them climbing a ladder near me and dont want my clay blown :P

                      Only use m24 or L96A1!

I don't recall seeing a sign saying "sniper community members only." I use pretty much every kit, I'll post my experiences with them, what more is needed?

You got it all figured out dude, each and every sniper is the same.
                        "Vast majority." Read it again.

I can tell you what they're thinking because I see them all do the same stupid crap. Every angst kiddie in the game wants to be the leet assassin, and since Spec Ops didn't really deliver on that, they all pick sniper. Whoopie.

And yes, I'll tell snipers what they should and shouldn't do, because the vast majority (there's that thing again) sit back out of the action cherry-picking a low amount of kills and constantly come up with justifiers to why that's actually useful. Sound familiar?

The only time "scout" snipers as you call them can even remain effective is against a commander who doesn't spot off the satellite, and/or an attack copter that doesn't feel like mowing them down, and against a team with practically no medics. In other words, against noobs.

PHPT what did you come in here for? This is a thread that FlyingEgg made to help people snipe. You're coming in here and saying that sniping is pointless, be brave and charge into the action. Bravery is also being behind enemy lines, all by yourself, and being tracked down by the ****ers that you keep killing, and knowing that you won't have backup when you're discovered. So what was your point into coming here and starting an argument, mate? No hard feelings. I just check this forum to see if anyone has posted more tips, not to see you argue.

TIP: If you are always getting caught or discovered, then do what I do. Go on a 32 player Wake Island 2007 server and try to go from one end of the island to the other. Ex. I go from North Base, to Airfield, to Beach, to South Base and back, all while NOT sprinting. Stay low and run from bush to bush, and lay prone when you are near a lot of enemies, don't run off like they have already seen you. Also keep in mind the color of your camoflauge.
My record is so far is 3 passes with 10 kills 0 deaths. I got this from 77th|Rider, thanks to him I've gotten better.
