Nope, it's set to medium. Probably the same difference though with my card.

Thanks dude. :) I had everything the same except 75mhz, the terrain, shadows (helps when some guy is above you on a roof), and no AA. Video settings optimized as in the TG too.

I'll see if the increased terrain level makes them not hover above the ridges. If he doesn't, maybe I'll revert back. :)

Jemme101, one thing I've noticed about your stats is your map of choice, which I find to be interesting. Do you find it easier to be sucessful as a sniper on Ghost Town, or do you just like the map? Also, a question I have posed on the other sniper thread I would like to ask you as well: How agressive are you in a typical game? Do you like going for flag caps often, or do you sit back and pick off enemy threats from a different angle?

As much as I'd like to laugh, my stats are probably worse (because unlike most people, I don't obsess over stats and simply screw around on maps).
Also, stats are far from being an indicator of skill level, although someone with an 11:1 K/D ratio (like you) obviously has some skill factor working for them.

And as far as getting worked up, that's my personality, deal with it

At least in my previous post, I asked a question relevant to the overall topic, which I have done in this post as well.

Unfortunately, "noob hating" is not within the bounds of this topic, as you claimed earlier:

"The thread's about effective tactics to use while sniping, but the effectiveness of certain tactics and the overall usefulness of the kit are two different things. My resentment is towards the ineffective, self-centered style of play almost every sniper I see engages in."

Your "resentment" is obviously irrelevant to "effective tactics" and to many of us as well.

              Re: Success with Sniping

Well tbh I havent played Ghost Town in ages :) I think I started this Jemme101 account (I have 5 more btw) round about the time Special Forces came out. And I subsequently played a lot of those maps with it. It was more of how things worked out at the time. And also because I was fed up with Vanilla BF :)

The role I played in Ghost Town was getting myself up in the Lone Belltower and Counter-Sniping just about anything I could see from that vantage point. Which is a lot if you play on the 32/64 version (allthough the 32 is better imo). The Lone Belltower I I call it is that thing right between al the CP's in Town. Its easy to defend with some clays and nades and if you dont go prone on the edge you are allmost impossible to hit.
The trick to that Belltower is to go to the top and use the supports of the roof for cover. So dont go prone just crouch+stand and hug that support and check around the corner. When you first go up there check the high spots that can look into that top position, which are the Skyscraper and the building between the 2 Heli CP's. Ill make that my first Guide for FlyingEgg if you want me to btw :)

But to get back to your question. Without a doubt Ghost Town is the best Static Sniper map out there. It is there that I found out I could get a high score on the Rifle. For most people Warlord would be a good one to but I prefer the adrenaline rush that Ghost Town gives. Well I used to.
Most peeps dont like the night maps but I had some nice runs on Devil's Perch to playing SEALS. I especially liked the 32 map which lkets you start at the Arti Island from which you can snipe across the water to the CP over there. Or when that CP was capped and the MEC team was pushed back to the Cliff snipe from a spot inside a house and keep the Cliff face clear of Snipers.

At present I play Dragon Valley and take the High Road on the western side and move to the point thats looks down up on the double IGLA position at the small temple near the Village CP. Its there that you have a small gulley and you can get safely down towards the Village CP (Ill put it in another Guide :)). But I either clear out the IGLA site for a BH or somethjing to take the flag or if nobody is defending it I go down myself and take a Squad with me if I get spawners. I play a lot on a Norwegian server and some of the guys there usually know where to find me when I am there so they jump into my squad when I am in position.

So to answer your question about aggresiveness, I let the situation at hand decide for me. If I see an opening for a Cap I take it. It helps to get the pressure of some of your own troops out there and also gives the chance to snipe at incoming assault forces :)
But getting down in the Street in a Designated Marksman role is something I only do when I play Karkand. You get a lot of metal and flesh in front of you so the targets of oppurtunity are plenty in that map to be succesfull as a DM. Well for me that is. I prefer the laid back Scout role over the adrenaline rush of the DM, especially after a hard days work :)

Btw I am switching to Dalian Plant and Daqing Oilfields atm. I found a very well adminned server, also Norwegian btw, which has both maps back to front in 2 rounds per map cycle. Daqing is fun, just go where the action is because of fog and limited visibility. Dalian has some great static sniping positions either from the Crane as Chineese or from the Mountain (use the BH or make a loooooong walk :)) as USMC.

p.s. sorry for all the smiles and the loooooooooong text :P

You should make a guide some of the stuff you mentioned in this post. BTW, what is the server IP/name? I would definetely play Dalian more often when my friends aren't begging me to join them on a karkand server.

                  The Dalian + Daqing server = Battlefield.no #12 Dalian+Daqing

The Dragon Valley server = TV2 RANKED srv21 DRAGON

The TV2 servers with 24/7 Dalian and another one with 24/7 Warlord also provide some good games.

                        Re: Success with Sniping

                        M95 damage is 190.
                        L96A1 is 95.

M95 has twice the zoomed deviation to comepensate.

M95 recoil is the same as the L96A1 though, which doesn't sound right seeing that the M95 is .50 caliber.

Anybody used spotters to check the accuracy of the rifles?

Each of you stand near what you're shooting at at various distances, tell each other where you're aiming and give each other feedback.

One of the sandbag walls will work best as it has the square mesh on it you can use for feedback (two high, three low, 4 left, etc.)

The damage for the Barret is incorrect in the chart. Here's the info from the M95's definition file. Posting a note there too.

Oh, right.. I just got what you meant.

The rifle's accuracy is such that either you can hit or you can't, due to your ability. The tiny deviation in the rifle itself will rarely, if ever, make a difference between hit and miss, only the sniper's own judgment.
You could attempt to gain an idea as to the extent of the deviation by shooting a target at an extreme distance and having a person up close trying to discern whether or not chips are coming out of the same place, but it's fairly irrelavent.

The bullets make holes in the sandbags so you can use the placement to adjust your sights for bullet drop. Works for any rifle, not just sniper rifles.
