Whoa whoa whoa...you said taht the L92 is a tier two...don't you mean SF unlock?...BTW nice sniping tips but i've noticed that the hiding in higher places can easily be beneficial, and not crappy like most people think..on some maps with clear areas(wake island...etc)..higher ground can be a killer, and using the higher ground usually limits ground attacks..like you being discorvered or being run over hope this helps and critisize if u want..

Actually, I chimed in and ignored that point completely. So no, that wasn't the issue, the only issue I was covering was that a K/D of 11 is not impressive when every other stat is miserable. Which was misdirected anyway, see below.

All that matters there is how well someone snipes, not ticket gap.
I thought about that, but the ratio got brought up and turned this into a **** measuring contest, may as well play along.

In fact, "ticket gap" actually promotes something most people scream about, which is claymore spamming.
KDA's don't show up, but kills revived by medics do. It's an estimate anyway.

Not to mention that it's hard to kill more than one person at a time with the M95 . . . But would you really rather snipers spammed claymores?
I'd rather them do whatever helps their team most. That may even include dropping the sniper kit when it'll be less helpful than a different one.

I can pretty much guarantee I will kill a lot more people with the claymore than I will with the rifle, because apart from anything else I get a lot of assists with the rifle, which don't show up.
I doubt that, but since the "Arkasha" on the official stats is someone who has 12 hours on spec ops and only 47 seconds on sniper, I can't really tell.

Your measure also ignores the quality of target.
A flag defend for every 16.64 rifle kills doesn't give me a strong impression on that either.

Which enemy do you think is going to do you and your mates more damage? I know which one gets other team members very happy with me, I can tell you...
Shooting a pilot out is nothing more than opportunism and luck. They have to be sitting still or just taking off to even have a chance at that shot. And I'm hard-pressed to believe you pick out "quality targets," as if to imply that your screen is constantly flooded with potential kills and you have to decide which one you're gonna shoot.

Eh gap ... whatever. I guess you ran out of valid points and are grasping at straws right now.
No, I'm grasping at the stat analysis that most directly shows your contribution towards the ticket difference between the teams, which in turn directly correlates to your role in your team's victory or defeat.

I am not here to impress you.
I apologize for making the mistake of replying to you instead of Arkasha, who was bragging about his K/D. Although I'll bite anyway, if not to impress, what the hell is the 11-1 K/D thing in your sig there for? And better yet, are you gonna post your 0.76 K/D with pistol next to it? :P

        Re: Success with Sniping

I'll post the Pistol AND the Knive in short order because both are below 1 The trick in getting the KDR on the Sniper Rifle high is as you said not having iit out the whole time. When I am displacing or on the move in big maps I allways had the Pistol out. I personally allmost never get killed with the Sniper Rifle out (Artillery is #1 reason, and only one). Because I want to try to get the Pistol back to a KDR 1 I am now running around with the Knive drawn. So in the near future this one will drop also below 1. At least I can keep on improving the KDR on the Sniper Rifle, which was my aim (slight pun :)) anyways.

Btw I only started to improve on this score when I reached 4:1 at some point and SF came out. I played SF exclusively those days and mostly the 32/64 Devils Perch and 32/64 Ghost Town. After awhile I thought it was getting boring and needed a new challenge. So I turned back to the Vanilla rotation and working my way through the maps 1 at a time on the TV2 servers (they have 24/7, 1 map only servers of most vanilla maps). First have been playing Dragon Valley a lot, and now I am busy on Dalian Plant. Working both sides because the TV2 servers do a nice Swap of Teams after each round.
When I played enough on TV2 I usually go out for other Euro or UK servers with the same map atm and play there a few rounds before moving on again. That way it keeps you sharp and you get faced with different people everytime and you will need to adapt.

But getting back to your remark about gap and what not. I exclusively play 64 servers. Thats max people in it so 60 and up. You get a big map, lots of targets and oppurtunities to get some points. Those big servers are hard to win by yourself, doesnt matter how skilled you are. If you are uber you still need a good team or you will get waisted.
Since I started to keep track 5:1 and work hard on that KDR I have only lost 180 lives on the Sniper Rifle. I made 4788 Kills in the meantime. Thats a 26.6 KDR, so maybe you can get the math going on that ratio for me. Or take into account the highest ration thus far I had of 50:1 and see how that works out.
The 11:1 link is there not to show of but to set a challenge for anybody else out there to improve on my score or their own. Just like FlyingEgg has a very high Accuracy (61%) which I want to get also but which is going to take quite awhile. Its good to set goals and records they get a competition going. I just put it in there so people can see what the record is atm for that particular weapon.
Competition is good, the #6 and #7 (overall kills) on the Sniper Rifle have been going at it for 2 weeks now and their score has been soaring skyhigh.

        Tip for Dragon Valley:
My own role in Dragon Valley (USMC) is getting to the high ground (usually the western side), creating a Squad and inviting some runners for the Temple and Village. Or if they have to much opposition going to that Heli pad CP further south.
Dont make the squad to big, 4 guys including yourself is fine. Get a mix of Medics/AT if you can (check manage box for what class they are playing) and use the Squad Chat to get them to spawn on you. Usually I get a sniper to so he can stay up while I move down with my team. The sniper can server the role as SL when I should go down (make sure the Sniper is the first you get into your squad so if you switch out of SL he will be the new SL).
Move down to the CP (Village or Temple are best for a Sniper). Get the CP and try getting back up again on the Western Hillside. There is a small dent in the Hill just opposite of the 2 AA emplacements which is great for snipering in a prone or crouched position.
Let the enemy try to take back the Temple or Village. Usually they will try this on foot and from your vantage point (dent/ditch) on the Hill you can cover the entire ground from Temple to Village. Enjoy.

That's the case regardless, unless you make a MAJOR tactical move. But my point is that in essence, the best thing you can do is tip the scales. If tipping the scales requires dropping weight on both sides, then that's the best thing to do.

Thats a 26.6 KDR, so maybe you can get the math going on that ratio for me .... The 11:1 link is there not to show of but to set a challenge for anybody else out there to improve on my score or their own.
It's rigged though, since you only even do it when you've got an opportunistic shot lined up. It effectively offloads what would be rifle deaths for most people to pistol deaths, artificially inflating your rifle K/D. That's why I'm reading between the lines here. Given your method of choice, it would be better to judge the K/D based on the combined total of pistol and rifle, which is an admittedly-good 3.32, but a far cry short of 11.

Given that you've got your knife out so much, I'm guessing you're hauling that around too for whatever reason, which drops it to 2.7.

Let the enemy try to take back the Temple or Village. Usually they will try this on foot and from your vantage point (dent/ditch) on the Hill you can cover the entire ground from Temple to Village. Enjoy.
I'd still say you need some idiots on the ground for that to work. Highest number of kills any sniper's had me for before I found them was 4, and on Dragon it's even easier. Most people don't even try just pointing "spotted" over a hilltop and seeing if it calls out a sniper.

          That's also not a 250m shot. :P

              Re: Success with Sniping

Well the 11:1 ratio is when I am in Sniping mode, so actually in position and taking the shot. I dont see th point of running around with a sniper rifle drawn when it is much more effective to use the pistol in CQB. Its a matter of opinion I guess but effective nonetheless. Most of the other top snipers use the same technique, so why should I shorthand myself.

I still dont see why you keep refering to people getting shot by me as being retards and idiots. People are in the heat of battle, focusing on what is up ahead and suddenly they are downed from somewhere else in the map. If they spawn in the same location they still need to locate my position. If they dont they will get nailed again. If they do, and I spot them first I will put them down again. Or if they spot me first I will displace. Killing me ingame is not that easy as you still think it is. But f you wanna try it some time you are welcome. The TV2 servers Dragon Valley and Dalian Plant are where I am most at when I have an hour to kill or so. In the weekend I start there to befre moving on to therest of the Euro/UK server network.

Btw that spotting technique of randomnly pointing in the general direction of where you think a sniper is works very well. I used it myself a couple of times when I couldnt make a sniper out because of the distance. Imo its a bit unfair but its the same for everybody else in the game so there is no point in changing it.

The reason they have to be idiots is because first off you can fire Spotted over a hill and give away positions easily, the second is that their commander has to be an idiot to not spot you as well. When I'm watching the satellite, the only snipers that ever stay hidden are the ones hiding among their own ranks.

Most amount of times I've ever been killed by a sniper before killing them back is 4 times, and that was before I unlocked the L96. Most amount of times I've been killed by a sniper without blowing their position is twice. All it takes is one non-fatal shot and your position is MOSTLY given away just off the direction indicator, what's left is chopped off by deduction, and then spotted spam clinches it. Cakewalk.

I've shot a helipilot in mid-flight. It was the greatest moment of my 40+ hours as sniper.
I did that twice TODAY on Iron Gator. Total fluke, but seeing the transport helo spinning around in the air for what was probably 5 minutes was a treat. Other one was when someone thought it would be a great idea to fly really low and really slow trying to cap the flight deck solo in his chopper.

                    That's why I'm a moving target. :P

Regardless, getting instakilled each time was what set the record for 4. After that they died, and that also makes that particular location worthless next time.

                      Re: Success with Sniping

Well this game is all about moving, if you are a sniper or not. People who keep repeating movement or staying in certain spots get waisted. Thats true.
Thats why a good sniper will rotate between several spots, to keep his enemies guessing and also to tie up forces that go looking for him. Sometimes I have 2 Attack Choppers actively seeking me out on DV. Then I know I am doing a good job and taking away some of the striking power of the opposition :)

Problem with that is, it's not a universally valid reason for playing the game. Not everyone cares whether the "team" wins or loses. I really don't. Why should I? I get no advantage if we win, no disadvantage if we lose. The game just starts all over again. Think about it -- the only guy who's really invested in a win is the commander, and anyone going for a WC ribbon.

You're not entirely correct. The vast majority of my pilot and gunner kills have been when the aircraft is moving. I don't hang around heli pads. I've just gotten good at timing when they're reaching the apex of their swing and are slowing down or stopping. And yes, I do try to pick quality targets. First on my list are snipers, then medics, anyone running toward armor, anyone dropping satchel charges, and so on. You bet I prioritize -- you wouldn't, with a single-shot rifle?

Try hard not to be a total ****, OK? I wasn't bragging about my K/D, I used it to show I have experience with sniping, and something valid to say -- unlike people like the NZ person, who has a very low ratio, yet thinks he knows everything about sniping.

And next time, if you're going to attack people on their stats, you might make the effort of actually looking up the right ones.

I had a snipe vs snipe session on Wake today from about 250 meters away. We must have traded 10 shots each until I finally got him with the M95. He was very elusive, hiding behind trees and the hill. Had to adjust the sight about half a click up to get a hit.
