It isn't. That's the big advantage of the M95, armour doesn't effect the damage it does. Also the accuracy of the Type 88, SVD and M95 are identical. Although I think they are increasing the M95s accuracy in the next patch.

Otherwise it's a good guide. Personally I do think the semi-auto snipers are usefull because they allow you to work as part of a squad if required.

Well there you go. I personally much prefer to use the M24, and will more often than not never play as a sniper on any other team than the USMC. I'll make the appropriate changes to the guide.

I sure wasn't saying that I prefer the SVD and Type 88. The M24 does kick arse and is easily the best dedicated sniper rifle. What I was saying the semi-auto snipers are quite useful because you can remain close to your squad as long range fire support (not really a sniper). With a good squad this can be a very effective way of playing.

Just wanted to add, I have found that between the two shooting styles, unless you are using the M24, you are better off slightly leading a target, stopping, and letting them run in front of it. I have found that even the slightest movement/adjustment on a target will throw your accuracy off. Ever since I switched to that shooting style I went from being very inaccurate with the M95 (to the point of having quit using it) to quite deadly...

Give it a try...lead the target ever so slightly, pause, shoot when they cross in front of the crosshair...you'll be suprised how much of a difference it makes (pay attention though, I often find myself drifting back to the more natural following someone around, adjusting, and trying to shoot)...

Great guide. this should help me get better at sniping which is my fav kit. I think this should be a sticky. Its a well done guide.

Although I like the M95 better for some reason. I dont know why but I always seem better at it than the others.

Here's an interesting bit of information for those snipers with the M95:

If your team is getting ravaged by enemy jets, keep in mind that *you* can deal damage to those jets. The M95 will do about 2 bars of damage for each successful hit to the body of an opposing jet; so, if you have a pilot who loves to baserape you and keep your own pilots out of the air, take a few shots at his jet ... the damage isn't much, but it could be enough to scare him off. Get two or three snipers on your team plugging his jet full of holes on every bombing pass he makes, and that pilot could be in a world of hurt before he even realizes what's happening. It takes about 1.5 clips from an M95 to take down a jet. Divide that between a few snipers on your team (and hopefully a friendly jet scoring a few gun or missile hits also), and you can have an unexpected anti-air force that the enemy jets will not be able to accurately target.

Just be careful not to get counter-sniped while you're lining up shots on the jets overhead ... that M95 has a dead giveaway shot sound that can be easily homed in upon by an opposing sniper worth his salt.

oh yea, if you have a mouse than can drop DPI right on the mouse, drop it to the lowest, ive been getting meany one shot headshots, even as they run across

Quick tip, I find that if you hit someone but don't kill and you're in a good hiding place, they normally can't actually see you. Thanks to damage direction and if they have decent sound, they will know your rough location and this means, at short to medium range, if you move, you are actually more exposed. If you stay stock still then, most of the time they will roughly sweep the area then move on, it is sooooooo much harder to pick out a still, well camoflagued sniper than one that starts crawling around prone (one of the worst things you can do in this situation). On the other hand you can do hit and run. Here I normally don't bother going prone. Just take a shot (normally snap shot as you don't have time to hang about) and RUN. If you've got some good cover cose-to and there aren't that many enemy, this tactic can work seriously well. If you get away quick enough you can even have time to plant a claymore or two and get some extra kills.

But thanks to your guide, i have a sniping problem; moving. I'm good at shooting. But i always stay on one spot because i'm afraid that people will see me when i try to relocate.

Stay low, use cover, stay in shadows. Very hard for people to pick you up (unless for example you are too close to a spawn in which case the UAV will point you out).

But isn't this a waste of ammunition? With 1.5 clips you can take out 6-9 enemies. And why would you, as a sniper, care about enemy jets? Offcourse, you can take it out, but that will cost you your postion and alot of ammo. I think that you -as a sniper- shouldn't care about airplanes, let your teammates deal with them.

also, if you can find positions where the only way to spot you is from highground, or directly infront of you..

The spots with great cover and great view is already know of, avoid these. Now if you spot a freindly sniper there, be sure to be in the same general direction, so people will unload at him, and not you. This is BTW one of those times where its great to relocate..


Be at the spot where you are the biggest pain in the rectum to the enemy

This could be at front lines, or at vehicle spawns.



Another good tip, this is especially good for urban sniping, hide under vehicles, preferrably vodnik's/HMMVW's/Nanjing's..
