Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
Sorry Turnip, a huge number of people usually in fact sign up with their in game name, I'd guess at least around 50%. Do some research and you'll be surprised.
While it can be at least 50%, its still close to that same figure. A lot of people have signed up with NOT the same nick. For various reasons. One of them being |ccc| for example.
in bf1942/DC there tons of infrantry servers
and still many servers around those days.
true, but the maps were designed for infantry only or with light armor/choppers.
except for the 3 city maps, i don't see the rest of the maps being popular IO maps. perhaps adding light armor??
I am amazed at all of the heated debate over IO. I really can't see where this game mode will be detrimental to BF2. If you don't like it, just don't play it. And the argument that IO mode will cut the vBF2 server choices in half is absurd. If, after the patch, the server list is re-populated with numbers similar to what we had at the 1.2 patch, then you will still have almost 1000! servers to choose from! That is three servers a day for ONE YEAR !
Besides, BF2142 will have a larger impact of vBF2 servers than the IO mode.
There are many people that play BF2 for enjoyment. Stats argument aside, to many, just getting online and gaming with some buds is what it is all about. It is why I play. It is why I joined a clan and it is why I will continue to play.
These long drawn out posts that attack people for thier rank/stats are pointless. So what if you have a pile of points and all of the unlocks? I could care less. I could care less if you are the most skilled player in the history of BF2 and you killed me 100 times in a row. As long as I am having fun, I'll keep on spawning. Eventually, I will learn something that will make it harder for you to kill me. Eventually, I will draw you into a trap and when you kill me, my squadmates will cut you to ribbons. And eventually, you will get bored and move on. If you are so damn good, join the competition league and have at it. I will always play for fun and if I get enough points for a medal or ribbon or rank, well, that is just gravy for my mashed taters.
You know Lazza when I read your first post in this thread I thought to myself "finally someone who else knows what they are talking about" and following posts have only strengthened that opinion. Back to IO mode imbalances... I made this prediction a LONG time before IO mode came out though because it's simple gameplay dynamic really and you don't need to see it in action to understand the consequences if you've got a big juicy brain like myself. But it doesn't take a Napoleon or Sun Tzu to see the end result of such a drastic gameplay change either (but don't expect to see it if you're an idiot).
I'm very experienced with both vehicles and infantry and it pretty much boils down to it like this. If your infantry sucks then you can be the biggest badass ever in that tank gorging yourself with countless enemy kills but your team is still going to lose badly because you're not moving forward and capping flags. The skill and teamwork factor of your infantry force is the biggest factor in deciding who is going to win a game because in the same regard that infantry is critical for capturing points it is also critical that they work together to hault and defeat an enemies vehicles (AT, C4, TOW, Mines, S2A ... whatever).
This is the first part of balance and the counterbalance to the above is vehicles. Without vehicles this whole infantry/vehicle balance breaks down and the game becomes a stat padding cluster f@%^.
The flip side of this balance on a regular server is that if your vehicles suck (or in the case of IO don't exist) you get bogged down and have serious trouble breaking through the enemies defenses (but at LEAST the means exist!). Defending is easier than attacking in Battlefield 2 and this is the case with most games. This problem is compounded in IO because as a result of the absence of vehicles and artillery the enemy team no longer has a need for AT/Spec Ops/Assault/Engineer (while critical classes for dealing/managing vehicles are useless in any other function) and as a result the defending force has more medics, snipers laying claymores and support spamming grenades which makes the enemy defense even HARDER to break.
So hard will the defenses be in many cases in fact I think both teams will give up attacking and just sit back in a defensive fashion and spam nades and revive fallen teammates with the "stat paddles". The end result of this is exactly what I believe is the main reason most people want IO - and that is easy statistics. What a sorry excuse for gameplay IO will be. It hurts the community, it degrades the whole Battlefield 2 series and it wasted a huge chunk of DICE developement time.
Who would've rather instead of IO mode had reworked S2A, A2A missiles, destructable claymores and balance aircraft? *Raise hand!* That alone would've alleviated a huge number of gripes that infantry players have with vehicles on certain maps and would've made some maps where some vehicles such as the J-10 (for example) much more managable and balanced.
This whole thing is a fiasco and it really does piss me off.
Only just read this thread and got to this post, not exactly agreed with PW on many of his rantings but this post so spot on just had to quote it and say 100% agreed.
You're not fooling anybody panda. We all know why you're going to play IO - and it isn't to see how the armor spawnkillers adapt. Funny you should mention that you believe that armor "spawnkilling" is armor that isn't being put to good use. In fact that is the primary goal of armored vehicles - to suppress an enemies spawn location and allow the your teams infantry to move up and cap the flag with as little resistance as possible. Just another example of a whiney newbie who can't adapt and finds the most basic tactics (which are easy to counter) "improper".
That's all fine and good until you run into the all-too-familiar spawncamper that has one reason for doing what he or she does best: getting points. There are plenty of great armor players out there, I know. I've been killed by many. That's not what I'm pointing out. I understand the concept behind and the reason for armored vehicles. What I don't understand is why you seem so offended. I presented a point and you responded with the above. Is this what the BF2 community has become?

But what would a Karkand sniper know about armour anyway?
Did you know there are actually 13 maps in vanilla BF2?
This one really amuses me. If you look a bit more closely, you'll see that I have more kills with the assault rifle than I do with the sniper rifle. I select a kit based on what's necessary to achieve whatever objective I may have at the time. Is this so wrong?
To your second question, I just enjoy karkand. Anything wrong with that?
Honestly now. Everyone needs to calm down and remember that a game is played for fun. That's it.

Uhh, duh, the point is you have 9 hours in armour, and given that 90% of your play time is Karkand then what do you really know about armour?
I don't need to look more closely to see you've got more kills with assault rifles, I saw that the first time I looked. Again you missed the gist, sniper is your favourite kit. What the hell is the relevance of how many assault rifle kills you've got when the point is establishing your experience level in armour and BF2 in general?

Idealistic but incorrect. Sitting in a half empty server for hours on end using the knife revive exploit just can't be fun. Many of us may try and play just for fun, and others just for stats (you'll find them in Karkand 24/7).

What I know about armor: It can be an asset and it can be abused.
To be honest, sniper isn't my favorite kit. I don't think I even have a favorite kit. As for experience, I'm not that great of a player, but I do what I can (which isn't very much, lol).
As for the last bit, I've never stat padded, nor do I plan on doing so, and I agree with you that many people do so on Karkand. I do ask that you keep in mind that not everyone who enjoys karkand is in it just for stats.

Same old same old. One teams failure to counter armour is not abuse by the player using the armour.

I'm not saying you stat pad, you said "a game is played just for fun", but that's not the case. Stat padders are evidence of that, and to a lesser extent a huge number of others (not just 24/7 Karkand whores).
Replace Littlebird and Attack Helicopter spawns with Transport Helicopters
2. 'Vehicle-neutered' ranked map option:
Same as above but weapon's on the transport vehicles removed.
3. Also they should add 'Supply-line' ranked map option (you can only take flags in a certain order - the flag available to take would be highlighted in your HUD like a wounded soldier, except semi-transparent grey)
ALL maps of ALL sizes and ALL kits will be playable.
They did something like this with BFV... It was a custom server mode that allowed for the server admin to replace just about everything, vehcile/weapon/kit-wise. This allowed for chopper wars or pistol only servers, or even tankless maps. It was great because you could limit the number of SA7s allowed, or replace all huey choppers with Cobra choppers, or make it so all soldiers spawned with same kit. Tons of fun.
I love IO. Man them Vehicle whores piss me off so bad
Elaboration...
"I only ever play Karkand. Generally I play Medic and get loads of points by throwing medkits around and reviving people who were killed while they were throwing medkits around and reviving people.
Sometimes a vehicle will come along and kill us, we can't run around throwing medkits around and reviving people anymore because if we run out onto the road the vehicle will kill us too.
And while we're waiting for someone to get our vehicle to kill their vehicle we can't score points by running around throwing medkits and reviving people anymore. Man them Vehicle whores piss me off so bad".
* Replace Tank/APC spawns with Heavy Jeeps
* Replace AA vehicle spawns with Light Jeeps
* Remove Jets
* Replace Littlebird and Attack Helicopter spawns with Transport Helicopters
2. 'Vehicle-neutered' ranked map option:
Same as above but weapon's on the transport vehicles removed.
Both very good ideas. In fact, they both seem better and more thought out ideas than just stripping the maps of all vehicles.

Statpadder mode. Oh well the mods are coming out soon
Can you stop giving people who want IO a bad name, not all of us want to pad our stats. I could say the same thing about vehicles just padding their stats, at least in IO everyone is on equal footing which isnt true for vanilla.

Amen to that. *eagerly awaiting PoE2*
Well, maybe. But don't you think simply altering the vehicle layout of the current maps with no other changes is a little lame for a new game mode?
Just think of the other possibilities, like objective based game modes such as destroy an asset, kidnap the commander (alive), CTF, push (called 'supply lines' here), steal the prototype jet, etc. etc.

Well, no, not really. The knife / revive exploit on a 24/7 Karkand differs from the proposed 24/7 Karkand IO by only a few degrees.
In vanilla everyone is on an equal footing. We all get to choose a kit, and a spawn, we all have the same choices available, i.e. "equal footing".
Just because Karkand medics get pwned by armour and they're too lame to choose another kit, or respawn way back at their own armour doesn't mean the players somehow have unequal footing, what sanctimonious tripe.
