Re: Petition keep squad hopping in Battlefield 2

This is really not that big of a deal. I personally don't want it to go away for the fact that it will slow rounds down by having to respawn at a nearby CP and walk/run/drive back to the CP you were attacking. No it's not realistic, but you also don't die in real combat and then get resurrected back at the MASH either. Maybe EA/DICE could put out a patch where once you die in the game your software locks up until you repurchase the game....jk, but you get the point.

If you kill a squad except for the squad leader, & they respawn & come back right away, kill them again, you can rack up a lot of points that way

I prefer to lay prone w/ a PKM when squads keep coming @ me Kamikaze

        peace:)

Well in a way it is realistic! It is not uncommon to be reassigned from unit to unit in the armed services. I have one friend that has been reassigned 3 times in the past 6 years and another that has been reassigned twice this year.

I can't believe people are still moaning about something they are also able to do. It's not even hard to get used to. Maybe if you used it, you wouldn't have any problems coming up against an enemy group.

Plus, all this " we want teamwork " talk is bullsh!t. If you were working as a team in the first place you wouldn't have a problem coming up against them. If anything, they are the ones using more teamwork skills than you.

You people moaning must be 80% American and want to turn this game into some sort of US Marine sim, or your just billy rambo who want to charge around the game having one on ones with people.

No one ever complained about wingwalking on 1942. It was part of the game. Like it or lump it.

I'd just like to see it become a server-set option, defaulted to off. That way it's easy to find pub servers without squad-hopping, but those who like it can still have it.

There seems to be a 3rd option on the table. That is, Dice "fixes" it.
I'm really amused by the number of people who are calling those who suport removing squad hopping "whiners". Seems to me that the majority of whining is coming from those who want it to stay. As you say, like it or lump it, Dice seems to be pulling it out.
It's not like it's a great shocker... how long ago was it that Demize stated that it was never intended?

This, I agree with. I don't really think Dice needs to go so far as to rip it out completely, reguardless how I or anyone else feels on the issue. There's support on both sides, so making it an option is an obvious answer.

Here's the kicker... I made a thread pruuposing this very idea before there was any mention of Dice removing it. The number of grouchy negitive feedback posts suprised me. Kinda funny how tunes have changed now that the shoe is on the other foot (and the metaphors are mixed). Check it out: http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67798

The choice (as you put it) is not a balanced one. Let's really be honest here...the skill required to accomplish a goal without hopping (Ingame ground Squad coordination and teamwork) is much higher that the skill it takes to do with squad-hopping (Coordination over TS using the spawn system to keep the Squad(s) alive).
So a group of players who even minutely has their act together squad-hopping can more easily overcome a tight, experienced, well oiled, highly skilled Squad on non-hoppers. At least that's the way it's being by the pro-hoppers (Especially Terroser).
A choice of Gameplay or Playstyle in a game like this should not have such a high degree of imbalance and I think that's what EA is looking at.
Completely agree with your point about EA but not about the game being imbalanced. Both sides can do it and if one side doesn't either by choice or it's just a very unorganized team isn't my concern. We all get stuck on teams that are unorganized or comprised of mostly lone wolf's. My concern is that in the new system people would be forced to lose additional tickets and time to do essentilly the same thing we do now without the extra ticket loss. I have new killed myself in order to join another squad I just view the map while waiting to respawn to see if I'm needed elsewhere or listen to the commander if they tell me to spawn someplace else. Also I'm not at the end of the day annoyed by the change. I will adapt and still play the game. I just don't agree with an option being taken out without a reason form EA/Dice.

I really enjoy the notion that if somebody decides to post his/her opinion in a public forum that if by chance someone disagrees with that opinion which they have the right to do they are called whiners. What is the point to this forum if everyone isn't allowed to have the own view and post it. As long as they are mature in the nature of there posts I would say they are whining. To often to many topics turn into imature arguments and the true original meaning of the post is lost. Not trying to start another flame fest but your post was the most recent on this thread staing that people were "whining".

Re: Petition keep squad hopping in Battlefield 2

Taking SH out is something that we will have to deal with as a Clan/Comp team. I think why everyone is ****ed is that Dice just thru this out and decided to change it. There has been no big talk in forums about how this is a problem and needs to be changed. It wasn't like there was all this negative feedback and Dice changed it to cater to the pubbers. Just a shock, thats all.

Of course, clans will overcome and adapt. Most clans buy the game and play as to what the game will allow. No bitching/cryin', just deal with the game mechanics as it was originally relesed. It's mostly folks who get pwned who start the " this needs to be changed" threads. It's when Dice makes the game more nOOb friendly and changes things that do not need to be changed that makes folks freak out. IMO, they need to work on their basic problems of the game, laggy 64 servers, CTD, red bug and yesterday, while on MEC we changed a flag and it was changed from us to MEC in the bar, but the actual flag stayed US, and the other team could still spawn there. Thats a problem they should address, not an issue that was never brought up by the community.

Because a squadleader dropping of HIS teammates is perfectly fine for everyone.
What sucks is when he drops his mates, they open new squads, and people from the dead-pool join them and spawn there immediately.

@=[SUX]= Lets be Friends: Removing squadhopping has nothing to to with "I want it nerfed so I can win", it's about not enjoying that style of gameplay even while winning.

It's not so much that they are stating their opinion, it's the way they're doing it.
Most of the Pro-hoppers (with you as an exception )are bithing about EA or bitching about the anti-hoppers resorting to flaming and/or name calling.
Very few have actualy tried to point out reasonable opinions for their pro-hopping stance.
While most of the anti-hoppers have put out reasonable arguments against it without resorting to Flaming.

I am a pro-cycler :) Squad hopping is not as prevelant as cycling out of the squad when you as squad leader get killed, to allow someone else to become the spawn point.

Clans will adapt, because they will work on it and figure out the best way to play the game. It will still bother some people that they get an endless line of players coming at them.

There will probably be a leap frog type effect, where people spawn on a SL, leave create a new squad as they are closer to the objective, then everyone while alive will join the new tactically preferred squad.

I would prefer that it stays the way it is, but I will adapt to the new way if it gets changed.

This will only hurt Pub players. Clan players look at the squad sceens and get into squads, pub servers are usually filled with at least 60% unsquaded players.

Gotta dissagree with you on this point. I think the pub players will have some pressure taken off 'em through this. In my experiance, casual/pub players usually don't cycle or hop much. They join a squad and sit in it for the duration. What it's going to cut down on is the mass spawn ins on whatever player happens to be closest to the flag.

As an example, just last night I was playing a round of Wake as US where we'd capped the the airfield. We cleared out the straglers in and around the base (who were mostly camping for planes/choppers), but must have missed an imobile spec ops that didn't show up on the UAV. Suddenly the it seemed like the entire enemy team was pouring in from one of the bunckers. I didn't mind so much... I got lots of buggy kills (), but there was some complaining from (apparently) casual players who thought there was some kind of hack going on. I had to stop and explain what squad hopping is and how it's not a hack just to cool folks down.

Anyway... optional is defiantly the way to go. I'd rather pub without it, but don't see it as a cyber-crime.
                                :p
