Re: Petition keep squad hopping in Battlefield 2

So... I finally for around to reading this petition.
I hate to break it to you guys, but it's doomed.
It's so badly writen that it just can't be taken seriously by anyone who looks at it in a professional way. Sorry to whoever wrote it, but... well, lemme make some suggestions.

      Petition to save Battlefield 2
Bad start. "Save" is very subjective. You don't have a crystal ball and you don't know that removing the element in question will doom BF2. I personally don't believe it will and the people who you are sending this to obviously don't either, your job is to convince them. With that in mind, I automaticly start to question how valid this document is, no matter how many people sign it.

      I'd go with
Community Petition to Retain the Ability to "Squadhop" in BF2
Yes, it's long, but the reader knows exactly what he's reading right away and it's neutral enough to not offend the reader (you really don't want to do that).
We at BF2.se love Battlefield 2 and want to do anything in our power to keep the community alive as long as possible.
      This is good.
In the recently released list of fixes in the upcoming patch, 1.3, (pic. to the right) it seems that DICE & EA are going to ruin our hopes. We know that this list has not been officially released but it obviously looks real and if it's not, well then we'll all be satisfied the day we get the patch.
      This is not good.
"ruin our hopes" especially sounds weak to me.
You'd be much better off explaining exactly what the issue is right away. I'd suggest something like:
According to this document (to the left), an element that might not have been intended, but has become a much loved feature, is going to be removed. We feel strongly that if it is, the game will not be as much fun.
Please spread the word about this petition in any way you can. We encourage other news sites to write about it and link to this page!
I wouldn't have included that at all. Not in the actual petition. It makes you sound desperate.
"If the player joins a squad while dead, the player will not be able to use the squad leader as a spawn point until they have respawned once."
(Practical meaning: No more Squad Jumping)
Not too bad. It'd have been a little more techincal with defining "Squad Jumping". I wouldn't have used a popular term at all. Maybe something like:
This means ability to rapidly change from squad to sqaud and spawn quickly from the squad leader would be removed".

Again, lengthy, but there's no room for interpretation or missunderstanding.
Congratulations DICE, you have just spit in the face of the entire professional BF2 community.
Why even bother to put such a statment in? Insulting the people you are trying to convince is a very weak strategy. Unfortunatly, the much of the rest of the document is very simular.
Ever since the first matches were played in BF2 players have jumped in and out of squads making the game play in BF2 both more unique and a lot faster then it otherwise would have been.
This is good. Other than then being the wrong than. Er, replace then with than.
The speed of the game is exactly what makes all the clans still play BF2 after almost a year.
This is subjective. It weakens your argument to try to use points you can't prove. Rather than "all clans", I'd go with "many players".
Now you want to remove one feature (yes, you heard it right, a feature not a bug!) that almost 100% of all professional players use in every single match!
Bad. Don't be argumentitive. Also, bever use the terms "almost" and "100%" together. "Almost all", would be better, but it's still weak. Try something like:
After a year, it has become conisdered a feature, rather than a bug to a large portion of the player base. Much of that base is professional.
We have never asked for you to take away squad jumping, and honestly did not think you would be so stupid to actually think about something like that.
K, now that's just silly. You just called the reader (who has better things to be doing with his time) "stupid". He just dropped your petition in the trash. Nice.
      Try:
There hasn't been a major community call for removing the feature in question. We (the undersigned) feel that removing the patch is not in line with the desires of the community.
This WILL kill the clan community within Battlefield 2. Once the clan community falls the rest of the community will follow soon. Few of the fixes in patch 1.3 are asked for by big parts of the community – there are plenty of other things that the community wants much more.
You can't prove Any of that and it's debatable as to whether or not it's true. Don't beak off about things you can't prove. Much better way of saying the same thing:
We (the undersigned) believe that this will damage the community of clan based players. That will lead to an impact on the general player base. Futher, the are issues that the community would rather see addressed.
Sure it’s a cool feature to request vehicle drops by the commander but no-one asked for that. How about fixing the many bugs in the game first?
Way to casual. It also has nothing to do with what the petition is about. Strike it.
What we demand is not that this fix is completely removed, but that this will be a server setting. Otherwise you will force a split in the entire community and making many, many, players (who are already now looking into other upcoming games) leave your game in disgust.
Demanding is for children and dictators. Demand nothing.
What we prupose is that rather than removing the feature, that it be made a server side setting. Thus players who want to use the feature as is may do so, while those who do not like it may play without it. Thus, everyone is happy.
Addition: To explain the actual meaning of how proffesional clan wars would be with a commander but without squadjumping this is what would happen: Team A makes a push towards a flag. Team B's commander will have them spotted in seconds (long before they reach the flag) and all the players in team B will spawn on the flag and kill the push.
      What the...? This is horrible!
Your explination of the impact is exactly what many players (and apparently Dice) would like to see! This after a fairly strong argument to make it a server side option just weakens things. Remove it.
We also want to remind those of you that don't play in a clan that a server setting wouldn't harm you.
I'd also like to remind you that harping doesn't make you any friends. This is the end of the document and you should be making your final plea in civil terms.
It's out best hopes that you will consiter our (the undersigned) position on this issue and make the accomidation we request. Thank you for reading and cosideration.

We are Battlefield fans and we are: The undersigned

So altogether my re-write would read:

Ever since the first matches were played in BF2 players have jumped in and out of squads making the game play in BF2 both more unique and a lot faster than it otherwise would have been.

The speed of the game is part of what makes many players still play BF2 after almost a year. After a year, it has become considered a feature, rather than a bug to a large portion of the player base. Much of that base is professional.

See? This might have gotten some attention. Hell, I'd sign it and I'm all for getting rid of squad hopping.

Re: Petition keep squad hopping in Battlefield 2

You are whining on us playing in clans and telling us to adjust, use a mod, play 1.22 and so on.

I have a little tip for you, if read what they say on bf2.se they say "atleast make it an option for servers, atleast for clans". It says so in the text. But I am sure you are too busy caring about your public experience to even care about clans one little bit.

I have nothing against taking away squadjumping as it is now on public servers but atleast leave it as an option for clans. Also telling us to play an older version is just a stupid argument. See, we as everyone else enjoys bugfixes and balancing. In most I think things in 1.3 will turn out good except for nerfing of SJ, if not left as an option, and the "commander can drop jeeps", if it turns out to be true. Thats just silly and should not be added to this game.

And do any of you think that CS would still be alive if it weren't for the clan community for the game? No I think not. I do not ask you do agree with everything we think should be kept in the game (NOTE: I totally agreed that jumping and shooting was stupid and wanted it removed) but atleast understand our wishes instead of some meanless bashing.

To bring another point up: what do you find most important

        1. new 'cool' features such as jeep drops from commander, removing of SJ
        2. fixing actual bugs in the game BEFORE adding new features and removing something that actually works...

My vote is on nr2 to be honest, and signing that petition might be a way to get DiCE so listen to the fans instead.

I also think that you should also try some clangaming and experience what teamwork with SJ actually is like before craving it to be removed. But I guess it all is due to the fact that you want to be an one man army. But keeps getting owned when a squad actually is working as intended and can spawn and cap the flag as long as anyone in the squad is alive.

@Wargimp: a few good points there so why not go and post it at bf2.se and they might change what they are saying a little bit? But IMO the message they are trying to get out (analyzed, poorly written or not) still remains. Listen More To the Fans DiCE/EA.

I don't have an account at BF2s currently. I'm not going to make one right now. I've got a movie to watch, then some sleeping to do. If you want to repost that over there, go for it. I only ask that you give credit to the author.

However, you cannot edit a petition after it's been signed. Doing so is actually a criminal act. If you were to use this, the petition would have to be restarted.

No worries, I am aware of any issues involved in changing the petition, but giving some feedback that really says something has been thought of is always good.

I'll make a qoute of you post it there, of course referring to Wargimp@totalbf2.com's forums.

The problem is that the whole team will be back in 15 seconds as long as ANYONE survives, and they might even might get reinforced by troops who died MILES AWAY seconds earlier without any need for troop movement. That's ridiculous.

I really don't see how removing squad hopping is going to ruin the game. It is clearly an abuse of the system and, eventhough I have done it, it isn't all that important.

your ratio say enough: K/D Ratio 0.8483
wargimp ratio says engouh to: K/D Ratio 0.9010

NO ...you want to nerf death.

What exactly is the counter? Kill the entire team? Anyone with an ounce of common sense can see that its an exploitation and shouldnt be in the game.

It wouldnt nerf the game to remove it cos it would be common to all sides.

If the game engine simply alloud people to spawn at any other player it would be obviously ludicrus.

I'm in a clan and we do more squad cycling than squad hopping. Removing it will just slow the pace of the game, make it harder to attack a flag and easier to defend. Since it will be removed from both sides, I think we can adapt.

It will make pub play on Wake and similar maps a total waste of time. Ahh, what am I saying, it already is a waste because pub players usually don't make squads. Even if you type "MAKE A SQUAD!!! MAKE A SQUAD!!!", I guess they can't read either.

I dont see how squadjumping removal affects the tactical/strategical nature of the game. It affects the "current" aspect of it, certainly. But let me ask you something- is it normal that in a FPS game you dont have to worry about survival? Because with SJ you really DONT have to worry about it. Youll be back in 15 seconds, and thats it.

With SJ being closed, you have to play tactically and strategically and carefully (as if you were in a real battlefield) from the moment you spawn till the moment you reach your objective.

As for Wargimp, hes TotalBF2 forums hardware, which I cannot say about you.

I like that statement very much, as it really describes what squadhopping does: It does nerf death! From a public point of view you have no disadvantage from dying anymore but your K/D ratio getting worse. From a clan point of view you have no disadvantage but losing a ticket.

But you don't have to restart your attack if the whole team (including the squadleader) died, but that's just what proper gameplay demands.
