Yes, I understand that, except not very long ago, everyone thought that games like CS and TF2 would still be free to download and all you needed to buy was HL2.

What if, say now after Natural Selection 2.0 established itself as a good HL MOD, NS wanted to sell it's MOD. I'd bet that would beat that paypal method they've got going. People would pay for it, and they wouldn't have to find a publisher to get it to box, they just set up an account on Steam.



But yeah, if say Monkeystrike tries to go for-pay, it'd go right down the shitter.

What they are doing is sort of common sense, the reason CS was free in the first place was because it was just some guy trying to make a mod for fun, he never knew how popular it was going to become. mods will be free, no question. cs2 and tf2 will be stand-alones. they do not use the hafl-life 2 engine. they use the source engine. i dont see how u can complain about paying for a professionally produced game. im sure ill buy cs2 and hl2.



at the moment, i dont see subscribing personally. not necessarily on cost, but if i decide to cancel at any moment, love my 2-300 dollar investment..

Yes, it is very much common sense, but you should read some of the archived posts and see how much common sense they had.

I can't believe Half-Life 2 might actually be coming out in 4 weeks. Wow. What the hell? How could VALVe do this to its fans?! I planned to not have to upgrade 'till like December if it was to be released this year and spend all my money before then on the many games released for the systems. Independent mods will be free unless otherwise specified by the developer. Valve mods and expansions are not free. They all use the same engine which is called source.

Please, PLEASE make it a little bit clearer on what I'm going to have to do to play CS2. When is it coming out, is it going to be in Betas like the original... just give me some damn certainty.

Actually I think he said it just to get some free surveyed insight on what the price should actually be. See the 200 follow-up responses along the lines of your statement, most people seem to feel that they would be more comfortable around the $4.95 mark.

Even if it is a mod, it's pretty much professional developers working at and for valve who make the mods, and their pay is also almost directly determined by sales. You call this greed? i have read all the news on this and it wud of helped people if he explained it simple,anyway i wud just get the HL2 SP+MP Retail Box set (from shop in other words) and if im right u then have no online fee/monthly fee seams easyist to me
